Best use of Starcloths?

I have been thinking about investing in a starcloth and wondered how best to place it on the rig. I usually have a goalpost set-up for the lights and a table with a black cloth draped over it for the players etc.

I think I have actually seen someone a few years ago using a starcloth hanging from the top of a goalpost-stand and his decks etc were positioned BEHIND the starcloth. What he was getting up to behind there - I don't really know!!:cool:

Try and get a fibre optic one not LED based as the LED ones are very fragile and just dont last.

you are spot on there... i have a prolight dj booth star cloth and sections are always going on it LED wise so i am going to give S&H a ring during the week and see what they can do for me.

I have an LED one, second hand.......about a year and 1/2 old and no problem yet....:)

you are spot on there... i have a prolight dj booth star cloth and sections are always going on it LED wise so i am going to give S&H a ring during the week and see what they can do for me.

I went for a pealight S&H booth for that very reason. The leds are difficult to replace apparantly and the pealights are much easier.

yeah to replace the LED's you have to unzip it... then trace the wires... sometimes you put a new set of LED's in 1 section and then the next goes so there is no winning.
my mate had an S&H cloth made for the front of his deckstand and it does look well and the material is nice and heavy duty too unlike hte prolight ones which are almost like wrapping paper

My advice with the "cheaper" cloths (I have one) is to throw away the cloth bag they're supplied with and spend £15 on one of these (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=36796&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=aluminium%20case&doy=25m11)faux aluminium cases from craplins or CPC. Perfect size; stops them getting bumped in the van. Mine's about 2 years old and never a problem with it. Treat it with a bit of respect and it'll be fine.

Incidentally, you can get two or three Purelight lasers in one of these cases - just cut the foam to suit. Smashin' :-)

I have mine 3mx2m behind me at the rear of stage and it came with own goal post system, i also have some very large ones which we use in the same method for doing back stage drops for live festivals.

You either spend £700 on a booth and the cloth velcros round nice and tight, or you buy a cheap cloth and fix it with the loops on their to a deckstand or if it's for a backdrop, you sometimes get stands with the cloth as James Lake suggested.

I'd do a google search - "Best prices star cloths". Thats what I'd do anyway :)

I have always found the 3x2 metre ones a tad too small to fit stands as they never reach the floor.
