How was your first night of the Christmas season

How did your first festive party go?.Mine was quiet we only had about 80 in it was a 60s and 70s night.Every one that attended all seem to have a good time dancing to all the old favourites.Its hard to believe that its the 2nd of December already.

We had a great night... until one of the kids bit the end off a glowstick and poured the contents into his eye :eek: Ambulance job and everything. Luckily it wasn't one of ours :bowdown:

The other 94 had a great time and best of all we were home by 10 :D :beer1:

Last night was my final wedding of the year. The Bride and Groom had very specific genre sets they wanted included. Small guest list - 50 souls going wild for swing/big band, soul, funk, motown, R&B and a large chunk of classic dance. It turned out to be a fantastic night.

Tommorow (3rd Dec) is my first festive party. A nice and easy 2pm till 4pm gig.

An odd one for me, 2 parties (medical centre staff & school staff) for dinner & dance. Plus fans, crew & fighters from "Cage Rage"

Ended up with the dinner & dance punters buggering off as there was no room for them & me finishing the night to a packed dance floor...........

Last night was the annual dinner and dance for a local sailing club. Which was news to me, I thought I had been booked for a Christmas Party (local hotel). The youngest person was probably in their late 50's.

The lady in charge asked me to play proper music, foxtrot, quickstep, you get the picture. I thought I was in for a tough night, but it all went better than I could have hoped. They really were a dancing crowd, and didn't stop all night.

At the end I got loads of positive comments about the music and people saying they hadn't heard some of the songs for years. The only downside was that the batteries in my camera went flat, so I didn't get any pictures.

It mada a pleasant change to play a completely different range of music all night. Makes your brain work that little bit harder.

Mine was excellent. It was my first christmas party of the year and if the rest are like last night then I will be happy.
It was for Waitrose and they were all up for it from the word go. I played loads of different styles and genres but the best tunes of the night were :
The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger
The Strokes - Last Nite
Jet - Are you gonna be my girl?
Plus the 'Cheese Fest' which included the likes of Cha Cha Slide, Oops upside your head and all the others.

Full dancefloor most of the night. 150 ish guests. A few of the younger blokes were staggering around by 10.00pm.

Funniest part of the evening was when I played 'Shine' by Take That. I said over the mic "I'm not sure if this is banned but we'll see how it goes..." Everyone shouted "Get it off!!!" but in jest and they all started dancing to it!

First Christmas party. Local athletics club, about 100 or so attending.. A bit slow starting, all chatting and drinking for the first hour.

Then they were off. Lots of requests, lots of bouncy dancing despite restricted space. Towards the end I asked if they had no sprinters in the teams as they were slow starters but had plenty of endurance. Music ranged from Beyonce to Stone Roses, skirting through The Cure and Dee-Lite. Early request (via e-mail on Thursday) for Ant & Dec -Let's Get Ready To Rhumble. :omg:

Didn't have any requests for Christmas songs ................ so didn't play any! :whistle:

I did my first Christmas party on 24th November which was a Grease night and there was 50 odd people and only one man.....!!

Thursday this week I had a Xmas party for the Samaritans who were well up for it, Friday another Grease night and a wedding on Saturday, which was quite a good night - very cheesy music required and supplied!

A lot of the businesses realise they can have parties earlier to make it cheaper I think.

Also alot of discos , venues are fully booked in dec karaoke bar in glasgow has christmas parties in november as they are full for dec by july. Not forgetting they dont want staff off with hangovers in the busiest time of the year for most businesses.

Well i have had a hectic weekend... been working all day saturday and sunday with my day job moving to a new factory.

Well last night i did a christmas ball for a few companys at Elland Road The home of Leeds United FC. From one of the companys there was the fiddle player from dexy's midnight runners.

10:00pm started the disco and rammed the dancefloor out with 250+ people. Did a full night on music vidoes using a plasma screen and projector.

Just hope the rest of the nights are like this one.

Did a company christmas party on saturday. Background music from 7 - 8, then started again with disco at 930 after the guest's had had there meal in the ballroom, my 12 year old son was a bit bored waiting for us to start again at 930, so i just said relax and think of the money .:D
About 100 people, they did'nt start dancing until 1030 ish, but they danced through to the end. Got a round of aplause at the end so must have done somthing right.:)

Saturday was my first Xamas party at Hilton, Blackpool for the management team of a natioanl double glazing & roof insulation company. They had travelled from all over the country. At least 400 people. Was on with a band, who were very good but not right for the function, they only managed to get about 30 people up.

Background music until 10.30 while they had the dinner and a quiz, band on at 10.30 for 1 hour then disco till 2am. Floor was packed as soon as I started with good old Candi Staton! Was the best night I've had for a while. Looking forward to the rest of my xmas partys at some very nice venues.

My First was a Regimental Christmas Dinner/Dance for 90 on the 24th November, Dress Uniform & Black Tie. Great Night & still a full floor at 2.30 a.m.

This weekend (1st December) 250 Army Cadets (12-18) and it was fantastic to see around 90% of them on the floor at any one time... Very impressive !. Trying to take photo's I accidentally leaned on the Fire Alarm button and caused a full evacuation but was forgiven as it caused a natural break for the raffle draw.

Finished with a Cha Cha Slide dance off between the youngsters & their officers.

No Prizes for guessing who won,based on the cheer factor, 20 vs 250 ?...No Contest !!!.

i havn't touched a xmas party yet and wont till the 15th of december, lol, and im not quiet, its just the way things have turned out,
last fri i did a breast cancer charity gig,
sat surprise 50th b/day,
last night my ussual pub gig,
next thurs quiz/disco
friday wedding ,
sat b/day,
sunday pub gig.

im sorta looking forward to playing mariah carey etc...lol

fantastic !!! singer cried off with bad throat half an hour in to his set. so it was left to us. we just took the whole night off the cuff had a good laugh with the audience and in the palm of our hands, management are now reviewing the position of the singer, is he needed ??? my opinion a BIG NO NO
