Lighting advice needed...

Hi, I'm in a 6 piece disco band, we've just bought our own P.A. system and have decided to add some lighting to let the audience see as well as hear us. We're on a very limited budget (surprise!) around £250-300. Our goal is to obviously have the band illuminated and preferably some sort of moving light effect on the dance floor.
My plan so far is to get 6x par56 short nose par cans with 300w lamps for the band and then a couple moving lights for the dance floor but I have no idea what would be suitable.
I already have 2 tripods and a 1000w smoke machine.
Any ideas/advice would be appreciated,

How about an Icolour (http://www.djempire.co.uk/prodinfo.php?ProdID=3896) to provide a colour wash over the band, you could always add a second at a later date when budget allows. For dancefloor coverage maybe a couple of Dynamos (http://www.bluearan.co.uk/menu/index.php?id=ACMDYNA01PK&browsemode=category) or Datamoons (http://www.jpleisure.co.uk/item614.htm).

Hi Elite DJ, thanks for the reply! Would you suggest the icolour to complement the parcans or instead of? I think I might need something cheaper then the Datamoons as just one would just about blow the budget :(

i know american dj europe do a light called the led pearl http://www.americandj.eu/images/media/videos/pearl-led-wh.wmv

or get yourself some halogen security lights like you see at b&q and wire them up 2 a controller and put color gels in them

Stick to your original idea of Par Cans to illuminate the band, they maybe have a look at 4 LED pars to mount behind the band, and a cheap controller to run them.

I agree with Jamie... would not reccomend the iColour for band lighting... from my own experiences using the IC4.

I agree 4 led pars and then spend last of money on a couple of cheap effects. Either 2 vango diamonds £50 each or maybe a couple of gobo moonflowers from acme about the same price each. Make sure to get pars with master slave function and you won't have to get a controller if you dont mind colour change or sound to light function.

Well thanks for all your advice, I hadn't looked at led pars, but when I saw how nicely they changed colour I had to have em. I bought 4 of em and 4 normal Par 56's. I figured this setup will be future proof as I want to go DMX eventually and I'll be able to rig all of these up together, whereas if I bought some cheap gobos they wouldn't be very flexible in that respect. Looking forward to getting it all setup next week. I'll let you know how I get on.
