I Know I've asked this before but didn't really get any helpful replies.

I want to design a logo for my disco - I've drawn it by hand but now want to design it on my PC so I can upload it onto my website.

Is there any decent free graphical software I could use - I've googled it but they all seem pretty dire. If no good ones for free, any cheap software.

please help!!!!

Try GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/), I've never used it but I know of people that have and they recommend it. It's a raster based application that is similar to photoshop (so I've been told).

I create logos using Corel Draw for vector designs, and Adobe Photoshop for raster designs...neither are cheap though, and they have a steep learning curve. There are logo design applications on the market such as "logo creator", but these are pretty basic and provide generic results that I think look rather poor if I'm honest.

Any logo design you decide on should start of as a vector design, which you'll then be able to scale to any size for whatever uses you might need it for in the future (think - logo on pens, van lettering, business cards, signage etc). Vector is far more flexible than raster (image) based designs.

Best of luck...

ive used "the logo creator". think it came from pc world. If you have a scroll down to the bottom of my homepage and have a look at the logo it took me about 30 mins.

The problem with Logo Creator is that it only produces raster images. Fine for web graphics, but not recommended for creating a business logo that you may want to use in different ways. Garry (Lewnics) recently found out the pitfalls (see thread here (http://www.mobilediscodirectory.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=9453)). He ended up having to have someone re-create the logo in vector format. At the end of the day it depends on how versatile you need your logo to be.

Ah, just noticed the leaves. He's not doing anything with them though and that certainly doesn't mean we are condoning anything. The fact that you made a comment about it has bought it to light rather than just leaving it as a light hearted joke or comment.

It was a joke & I certainly wasn't condoning it.

Still it's an image that can be bought worldwide, so no real harm done.

Yeah - we seem to have gone off topic a bit here - and I'm still no closer to my lovely logo. I like yours Simon but that's not what I'm after - it's the JAM part of JAMdisco that I've designed and now need it digitally.

Just to clarify what I mean - the horizontal of the "J" crosses into the "A" and the right hand side of the "A" runs into the top left of the "M" continuing the same line (if that makes sense)

I'm pretty sure Serif do a logo program called LogoPlus (or it may just be part of PagePlus or something like that). I'm also sure that DrawPlus, also from Serif, allows you to create vector graphics and has logo wizards built-in.

When I created my company logo, I used a sub-program that was part of a business card creator package from Avery. I haven't got it now and can't remember what it was called but it did the trick for me if anyone else can find it.
