Building my own rack to hold my amp and mixer

Hi people,
In the next few days my amp will be arriving and so Im wanting to make some kind of rack to mount it with my mixer etc.

I know you can buy them but they look abit big for what I need so Im going to get my brother to make one.

Has anyone else made there own? what materials did you use?

I need to to be as light as possible but also strong.

Any help would be brilliant

Hi you can use 12mm MDF or 12mm ply for your rack, glue & screw all joints & fill with car filler (P38) before painting,
if you cant get hold of some tuff cab (paint) use oil based eggshell for a really tough good looking finish
if you want to use proper rack strip you can buy it from here:

but get the rack strip before you build the rack because depending on what rack strip you chose some require a larger opening than others!

I'm not a fan of self-built cases, especially bulky/heavy MDF types. ABS is the way to go, take a look at the Gator range? It's an investment which holds it's value indefinitely.

Self built cases can look well if you do them right...
i have made a few cases out of 12mm MDF and then put metal strips and corners around the edge to make them stronger and look better... The cases for my movers i have covered the MDF with black 3mm hexi board and they do look welll.... Will take some pictures at the weekend when im out with them again.
