Mine was cracking. Full dancefloor all night. I had a wee tear at 12.00, as expected. ;)

At the end of the evening, the gentleman who booked me came up with £50. I thought it was a tip but he said: '£50 is your booking fee isn't it? Well, here's the booking fee for next year. In all the years I've organised this, tonight has been by far the best. You really were excellent.' .... Which made me go all funny.

I've always had big ambitions to do lots of things and make a lot of money...but I think I'm sucked. I really enjoyed myself and it just 'felt' right.

The venue want me back to discuss weddings etc with them too, which will be handy for Posh.

Just this minute returned from a local Village Hall, doing a 40th birthday. Cracking night. Birthday girl asked if she could do a short set herself early on, and proceeded to bring in a lovely Yamaha mixer amp and cabs, SM58 radio mic with a better receiver than mine, and Minidisc backing tracks. She was absolutely excellent, and we have exchanged cards, as both were really impressed with the other.

When she booked, she asked for lots of Tamla and Northern Soul, and I had a ball playing hits and rarities from those vaults early on. After the buffet, and her set, it ended up as a free for all, with 60's, Soul, Party, Chart, and one or two Rock Anthems. Lovely. I'm willing to bet Saturday night's gig doesn't go as well, Karaoke in the village.

Disco/Karaoke Saturday at a local pub, very little room, and I tried a very bold setup because of it. Recently, I have been having lot of learning experiences lately, particularly with Karaoke. I've nearly begun to understand some of the tricks the big Behringer mixer can do. Sadly, it's a huge beast, so I often use the little Phonic 740, which is an astonishing bit of kit, and can be placed under the top shelf on the stand, cos it's upright, not flat.

For this one, I had the Denon running into one line input on the Phonic, Laptop running into the other two for Karaoke, a cabled mic and two radio mics into mic channels on the phonic, and two more mics in the denon for karaoke, so that I had kill switches, sadly the only feature missing on the Phonic. I think I shall revert soon to using switched mics, and losing the kill facility.

OK, I got the gear in, and had everything working acceptably, except VDJ. :eek: :eek: Aaargh, no Karaoke!! Nightmare. I rang the IT department, but got the answerphone, I tried the only thing I knew: I turned it off, and on again! :D :D :D :D :D Songs would load up, appear to play, but no sound, no graphics.

Then the penny dropped. ;) I have a Numark DJIO USB soundcard, and it's set as the default for VDJ. However, if it's not plugged in, this fault appears. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o I plugged it in, and hey presto, words and music. Phew.

The gig was a 50th birthday, played loads of different songs, loads from the 50's as requested by the Birthday girl. Loads of dancers, enough singers, including a couple of very good ones, great atmosphere, good fun.

Difficult one last night.
A post wedding disco , ie no first dance , cake cutting etc , no requests all night either , the groom said he will be in the bar all night as he hates disco`s :eek: . about 50/60 guests , requested no cheese but toward the end the bride asked for cha cha slide , time warp , love shack :confused: .
Still a few dancing most of the evening , I was thanked at the end , strict end time , the hall had to be empty by midnight , that's everything , all the cleaning etc , so I finished about 11:15 , and was out by 11:50 , in my local club by 12:20 having a well deserved pint.
I did try out the two Acme junior moon flowers I brought from the DJ show at Lacey green , very impressed , pointed them up at the ceiling ( about 30ft up) , nice spread ,and for a 100w effect very bright , I think I will have to replace the lamp in the EFX 500 , it wasn't as bright as the 100w moons .

Adult party for a 3 year old with majority of audience being 55-60 asking for many 60s requests. A mix of some modern, Cbeebies themes and 60s. Seemed I couldn't please everyone, but that goes with the territory. Wish i could read minds and knock back requests - but I tried.

My gig last night was for a 30th Birthday Party for twins (Boy/Girl) themed "Tarts and Vicars"

Approx 150 Guests (200 expected) in a local function room called "The Barn"

I must say it was one of the best gigs I have done in a loooong time. People well up for it. Dancing and Drinking. It was quite a modern playlist with some indie/student anthems thrown in.

Unfortunately I couldn't escape the cheese and ended up getting them both up to the front of the stage, got the rowdy crowd to give them a cheer :) Followed by Oops Upside Your Head with them both heading up the lines! Then the CONGA - Then SUPERMAN! WTF!!! They were lapping it up... and it's all about giving the customers what they want, right?

Biggest tunes of the evening - Rihanna - Whats My Name, Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out and Bryan Adams - Summer of 69

Got a nice cash tip from thier Mother at the end of the night too :)
