Good Gig, Bad Gig.

I agree totally!! I kept to the theme all evening apart from the one song which her boss said she would see the funny side of. She even danced and sung along to it which makes me laugh. I had other requests for Toploader, Guns N Roses, Britney and Chart stuff and was probably 'Mr Crap DJ' to those that I said I couldn't play them to as I had to stick to the theme. Those guests seemed like they were bored with the same genre of music all night (even though there were 4 different genre's).

In my defence though - In the pre-party meeting we did agree that should anyone ask for something a bit different, if I knew it would work and fill the dancefloor then she didn't mind. I KNEW Bon Jovi was way off the mark with the genre's I was playing and I had to really think before I pressed play but judging on the requests I was getting at the time, I was pretty confident it would work...and it did. I would usually follow it up with Guns N Roses and some Killers etc and I know they would've worked too on this occasion but I decided against them and went back into the genres I was playing.

If I would've played more of the rockier stuff then it would have been out of order in my opinion but the idea (of the requestee anyway) was that it was a joke. He did say why but I can't remember the reason and like I say, she was dancing and joking about but that was probably the alcohol.

It's a weird one isn't it - I want to keep the customer happy as they are paying my wages and I want to give them a great time but I also always say that I want to keep the guests happy too (and the customer always agrees) and if they are asking for other stuff and not enjoying what is being played....well....you know what I mean.

Sorry if its a dumb question Gary but did you not know the length of Al Green & Marvin's songs? Say at ten to midnight and I had two songs to play I'd of loaded them up in VDJ and see how long each was, add them together and take away ten gives you how much spare time you had left?. At that point you could of played Rock Me Tonight and be safe in the knowledge you had enought time for her final two choices?

Ha Ha...Of course I knew the length of the songs. I also know how to add up and subtract BUT I was busy talking to a guest about requests and quickly glanced at the time inbetween trying to explain that I couldn't really play her track (Freddie Jackson) as I was rapidly running out of time. A quick look at the clock and I thought it was ten to Midnight but it was actually a couple of minutes before ten to Midnight so once the 2 requested songs had been played there wasn't long left at all.

....and as I am sure you are aware...The Freddie Jackson track is also a 'slowie' so it fitted well with the other two and still had people on the dancefloor.

At the end of the day, I'd rather have done it that way than finish a few minutes early.

Not a bad evening for me. The grounds and venue were gorgeous. If I ever get married...I want the reception there!

I was on site for 3.00pm, background music, wireless mics for the speeches and then into the 'disco'

They were a good crowd (young). I played a variety of music in a very strange order! Surprisingly, the best song of the night was Jennifer Lopez - on the floor. I had 10 seconds of Dizze left and this was the first tune that came into my head!

Few negatives:
1) It was a Sunday, so a lot of people left early due to work tomorrow.
2) There were so many rooms, smoking shelters and grounds for people to wander...it was hard to keep them in the disco room all the time AT the same time.
3) They drank far too much. The groom had to go to bed at 9.20pm! We managed to wake him up for their last song 'I'm a beliver'
4) The bar closed at 10.30! Come 11.15pm, the guests had to wonder around the tables in search for opened bottles of wine!

During the wedding breakfast, the B&G introduced themselves. The bride was quite taken back and said 'you look very young! I'm quite shocked', which made me feel very uneasy and knocked my confidence a tad.

The booth fitted in well with the room, especially during the wedding breakfast. Fed and watered by the venue, free wifi and a kiss/hug from the bride at the end for a 'lovely evening'

Had a bit of a dissappinting one on Saturday night which was for a 30th with around 150 people.
The party was arranged by his girlfriend who was very nervous at the beginning of the night as I think she had found it very stressful to organise so spoke to her to reassure her that everything would be fine.
The only remit for music that the boyfreind had given was 'anything modern'
Anyway, nobody danced in the first couple of hours and then the girlfriend came up to suggest I play modern stuff which I had been doing all night but to
be fair she did drag a few of her friends up to dance.
Quite a muted reaction from crowd right up to the end.
Anyway after packing away I said goodbye and birthday boy said 'thanks for coming, play some decent music next time'
Also found some damage to my car the next morning which may not be related of course. Left a bitter taste though!
