But why do you need three glasses?

Do you always join in with the toast? Why did you drink the first glass, knowing you would need it for the toast? Maybe I'm missing something - do a few of you on here toast to the B&G?

I'm not saying I disagree with having a drink whilst working. I think it's acceptable to have a tipple during the last half an hour (as long as it doesn't effect your performance) but I wouldn't and don't drink champagne at 6.30pm, knowing I had a long evening ahead. :)

Charlie, I don't think you are the best person to advise others as to what they should do as sometimes it comes across in your reviews that you like a few drinks whilst you're working. Most of us drive on here and I don't know about anyone else but I am one of those people that does not have any alcohol if I drive. Sometimes I may...just may have a glass of champagne if I am offered one for the toast (and yes...I have been offered and I have toasted before, even if it's with my Lime & Soda!)...what I wouldn't do is have any alcohol in the last half hour etc....

If you HAVE to have a drink then I'd do it early on....once you learn to drive then I hope you don't find out the hard way.

Lastly Charlie, why do you always have to find faults in posts? This is supposed to be a review section but it doesn't seem like that sometimes.

Gary, I'm not condemning having a few drinks whilst working because sometimes I do. What stood out to me in DJ Paulie's post is the fact he was surprised the wedding planner didn't top him up. Would you expect to be topped up so you could toast the B&G? I haven't come across it yet, which is why I asked him. I wasn't having a go or trying to pick fault - I'm just curious. :)

I know sometimes on the forum I come across rude/harsh/to the point but I think a few people take it the wrong way. People who know me well/seen me in 'real life' take it as a pinch of salt and understand what I really mean. I'm not a negative person and I don't scrutinise what people do - because my life is all over the place! :beer1:

Charlie, I think the point is that Paulie was invited to sit at the table so he should've been treated the same as any other guest. If the wedding planner ignored him while he was seated then it's her behaviour which is unprofessional.

Also as the couple were Russian and Lithuanian I suspect there's a strong hospitality and cultural element in inviting people to eat and drink with them - refusal could be seen as being very rude.

Best advice to you Charlie is read the posts 4 times before replying ! Bit yes I was given 3 glasses by the groom & it was only low alcohol perry you know the sort of stuff you get in Aldi, by the time the meal was coming to an end (about 3hrs later) I had finished them.

Friday night was 50th Birthday in a house in Ascot. Set up in the conservatory which led out to a small marquee with the bar. Patio heaters were spread on the patio (where else!). About 50 guests.

Not much room for speaker stands so had the K12's on the floor - they sounded fine. Ultimax set up in the dividing doors to the living room (which was out of bounds to guests). No overhead bar.

Lighting was a Starball, Revo III and Equinox Microbar with another Microbar outside - and a smoke machine which made it all look really fab. Starball was clamped to the Microbar stand and Revo III on the floor pointing up into the dome of the conservatory (which had cream blinds so showed up well).

People were dancing all night, mainly 80's cheese and Motown with a bit of 90's dance thrown in. Loved the surreal sight of two Labradors walking through the dancers to get to the garden throughout the night.

Lovely people and great hosts, was kept supplied with nibbles and coffee all night.

Saturday - early start to get to an all day wedding booking In Gloucester. Nice venue, Southrop Manor, Tithe Barn. They've only started doing weddings (this was the first one - actually first proper party of any sort).

When I contacted the venue I was told they had an in-house sound system I could play through, the wedding organiser couldn't tell me anything about it or even what connections I needed - though when I asked if she knew the make she said 'phonos'! (she admitted she was better with food questions).

When I arrived no one knew where I was supposed to set up - though a massive doorway seemed favourite as it was right next to the cupboard with the amps and mixers.

Had a look and it was a Yamaha powered mixer which did indeed take 'phonos' (and XLRS's).

I asked where the speakers were and were shown a couple of 10" FBT's sitting on the floor (no stands available!). Seeing as my playlist had Prodigy and Chemical Brothers on it I mentioned my doubts about their system being suitable for a party of 100 - to which I was told they had a 'lovely sound for background music'.

In my wisdom I had bought my own speakers with me so set those up instead - still used the doorway as it wasn't going to be used and kept me out of the way - used my DSB.

Lighting was 5 Solar 250's placed on a balcony - they looked absolutely fantastic against the white walls and ceilings of the barn. Other lighting was a pair of Martin Ego 2's and a pair of Equinox Microbars (colour wash earlier, S2L later) and a Starball.

An acoustic busking style band (The CashCows) played a couple of sets and were great fun.

Big plate of sandwiches was provided for the band and myself which was appreciated.

During the meal my playlist consisted of Neil Young, Fleet Foxes, Canned Heat, Dylan and similar.

Main set was a combination of Indie and 60's Yeah Yeah Yeah's, The Rapture, Chemical Brothers were popular - though a bit of ironic cheese was appreciated too.

The guest were mainly all Uni friends and used to go to a lot of clubs together so they had their favourite anthems and tunes with memories attached, it made it a non-stop party from straight after the speeches - lots of hugging and singing along on the dancefloor.

At the end of the night the lady in charge (who was not the same person I spoke to on the phone) could see that the house system was no way sufficient for a proper party and when I explained some DJ's would probably thrash the life out of it she asked me to email the owners to give them some feedback - which I will. My suggestion will be that DJ's do not go through their system at all - keeps it simple for them.

I also noticed their plug sockets were in the floor around the perimeter of the dance area, they were covered with flaps but any spilt drinks would go straight into them, there were loads of glasses and bottles next to them at the end of the night, that's an accident waiting to happen! I thought all new install plugs had to above a certain height? (it's a very recent refurb).

A tiring but enjoyable weekend.

looks like you made a good impression there funkymook, that was a bit of a jaunt from Middlesex over to Gloucester ?! I always thought Yamaha should stick to making bikes !
