Awkward gig for me on Monday night. I'd just settled down to so some work at around 1730, when I got a call from one of my regular hotels in a panic. They had a wedding in, whose DJ had no-showed. The hotel had recommended me to cover it, but the couple only had a budget of £150 for a 6 hour gig. Really tricky, as there was no way I was going out for that, and explained that I would've quoted well over double that. However, I didn't want to be seen as a mercenary pig, holding out for more money from people in a desperate situation. As it was, I settled at £275, and was please to help them out.
It got a little trickier, as while I was setting up, the booked DJ arrived 90 minutes late, and started kicking off about still getting his fee!!
In the end, only about 40 or so guests, in a pretty awkward mood as they'd obviously had an upsetting evening. Good night in the end though, really nice couple, and I picked up another gig from them in October (at my full fee....!!).
