So it's not just here that the travelling community cause trouble ! Must say I've never really had any problems with them, they are always willing to help with gear (keep and eye on them though) and always pay well and usually up front.
I'm quiet now until next month as the kids are going back to school and everyone is paying for new stuff and getting the holiday credit card bills in !

Oooh...Sorry to hear that Simon. I look forward to reading the review as it doesn't sound good at all. I don't have to tell you that it WILL get better as I am sure you know that these things don't happen that often.

Well, last night was very strange for me. I don't do many Monday weddings but it was the second this year so far. It was a small wedding and not very long which is why I said it was strange. I was booked from 7.30pm - 10.30pm and it was more of a relaxed atmosphere.
It felt like I was doing a Request Fest night at my local at times because people were seated and chatting but coming up with requests that I haven't played for years and they were very eclectic too. I did feel a bit bored at times, hopefully I didn't show it. I actually used the free Wi-Fi at the venue and had a look on here at one point which is something I don't normally do (and probably won't again).
First dance was 'I'm Yours' by Jason Mraz followed by 'We have all the time in the world' by Louis Armstrong (great song!). They were an older crowd too so the Motown and 60's got a few of them up for a while. I can't really add any more to be honest as it was just one of those gigs. Good to get a gig on a Monday though and it's a weird week this week as I have gigs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday too so a busy one for me.
What I did like though was that I got the opportunity to test the subs with the mackies and it sounded very nice.

All started last Friday, I had a text off an agent I casually work for now and again, asking if I was free on Monday night. He said it could be a tough gig (I thought well, yeah its a Monday) and if I want it, its mine. I thought well yeah, its a Monday, why not.
On Saturday, I get a text, saying the bride may not be attending however the party has to go ahead. The agent gets a bit more detail, and rings me. The bride is termailly ill with cancer (not sure where) and her only dying wish was to get married. She is in hospice by the way.
Sunday, I then found out the bride took a turn for the worse. It was touch and go.
Monday, still here, and makes it to her wedding breakfast. As she was starting to her starter, she asked the venue management is there any chance of a karaoke instead, and luckily the agent is based just around the corner and managed to get the gear into the car quickly! I turn up to The Roker Hotel at 17:30, and because the timings were so tight, being last minute and wanted to get the entertainment started straight away, there was no room turn around, so we had to setup whilst they had there desserts. Not ideal, but in 4 days this was the best that the hotel/agent could do. Straight up the side staircase, on to the stage, and setup behind the curtain, so didn't look to bad. When they finish the desserts, I introduce myself to the B&G and congratulate them etc.
They are ready to the first dance, but the nurses had to a check first to see if she was able... There was two in the hotel. She was in a wheelchair, and was detirmend to her first dance out of it. That was a surprise for her Groom, and which she did. It was so tearful. It really took her out of it, bless her. She retired from the floor, to her wheelchair and took her place on the top table again. Her father came up to me, and asked if I could go and see her. I did so, and she informed me that she wanted to open the karaoke with Celine Dion. But she wouldn't be able to stand so I said not to worry I can sort out a chair on the stage.
She sang it beautfully, and the groom was crying. It was emotionally tough on me to.
The night went on, had 19 singers in two hours, which was good going I thought, in the circumstances. At 9pm, I was asked to make an announcement that the B&G was departing. I said my bye's at the table to. She also asked if I could let everyone know her wishes again, and remind them that she would like everyone to stay, get merry and have a good time. Was a hard announcement but I did it.
A few left to and I went from 83 people to around 20 before half 9. Karaoke died off a little, and I didn't feel it was right to keep it going singing myself. At a normal gig, I would, but tonight wasn't the night for that. The last 20 hung around till 11ish, then they departed to. The B&G's parents came up to me, thanked me for the fantastic evening, and couldn't of asked for more under the circumstances. That made my night.
So all in all, organised in 4 days, and one of the hardest days in my life. My girlfriend is a carer and sees this on a daily basis, I really don't know how she does it.
Wow, that is a horrible story.
It sounds like you did a brilliant job considering the terrible circumstances.
Well done.
As Charlie says that would really take it out of me doing that event. Puts some small issues we all have to deal with into perspective.
