Good Gig, Bad Gig.

Taken on board mate. It's funny you mention abuse because the worst gig ever had abuse which I have mentioned on here before. This is number 2 in the list because of the lack of interest. I know we always say stuff on here like "Try not to look bored.." etc. Well, last night my face hurt from trying to put a smile on it all night whilst inside I was dying.

It wasn't the lack of guests either... (One of my best gigs ever was for 15 middle aged ladies at a christmas party who literally danced all night to everything I played)...it was simply the atmosphere (or lack of) and the fact that no'one could be bothered.

Wedding last night fairly good gig lots of people dancing, had been requested that I didn't play too many party songs but landed up playing half a dozen including the hokey cokey at the request of the groom.

What i thought to be a faulty speaker cable appears to be no output from the mixer on the right hand channel so spent all night on one speaker all credit to american audio speakers it coped very well.

sadly off to my day job now so the mixer problem is going to have to wait till i get home for further investigation.

I did one last year, a 21st at a football club. I asked the birthday girl how many she was expecting, she said 74 had said yes on facebook plus about another 50, so 120 - 130.

The most during the evening was 27, including 13 players (I counted) that had stayed after the match.

It wasn't my fault, I felt extremely sorry for her, she ended up in tears at the end of the night, poor girl. She'd paid for me, a nice buffet and the room. Assuming that those who say yes on Facebook will turn up is totally unreliable in my experience. Some of my DJ mates have organised events on Facebook and loads of people say they will attend but when push comes to shove you find that only a few of them actually turn up :(

Well, last night was an experience. :eek: I was covering for a local DJ who has a bit of work going at the moment. This was in a nice restaurant, which is in an area I don't regularly work.

They wanted Karaoke as well, so I took a pick'n'mix of gear, especially since I was told space was tight. It was. I had the monitor on a table at my right, the Phonic mixer amp under the top shelf, and two Peavey cabs stacked on the floor on my left, with the trusty Teutonic Powerbar for effect.

As the punters came in, I noticed that a large number of them had limbs missing. I was later advised that they work for these folk:

They were livelier than most able bodied folk, and Karaoke sort of took over the evening. We had the bonus of a lovely German lady who could really sing. I so love it when we get a karaoke singer who is really really good. I've had two that were superb, one of who was unbelievably good.

All in all, a good night, the gear I took worked well, and I learnt a lot if I should return there.

Well I set up for my wedding this evening. They got married at 10.00am and the 'community centre' is opposite the church. The guests arrived as I was leaving (11.00am) I felt really bad for the couple so I've left my mackies on with a wireless microphone and lead to plug their iPod in for background music.

It's going to be a really long day for the guests. I'm not due to start till 7.00pm this evening. One room, no grounds except a grotty carpark and the tables are set out like a school canteen.

What an earth are they going to do? No band or othe entertainment - it's crackers.

You made a point of saying it's a Community Centre...what's wrong with that? Not everyone has the budget for a gorgeous venue. I bet they have a great time!

Charlie, although I admire your sentiments, do you not think in eight hours they could well have copious quantities of falling over liquid? We all know what happens then, people want the music louder and then louder. Won't take them long to find the volumes on your speakers, especially if there is a non working dj there.
