Thursday was real good fun. Guests were up for it from the start and the Bride was / is massively into Glee :D So any track I'd normally play if there was a Glee version I played that so we had allsorts from Bad Romance , Proud Mary right through to when someone requested Dancing Queen I played the Glee version :D
All in I should think I played around 20 Glee tracks including the "Buffet mix"
Last night was for a someone I know through a Weddings Network, he's a magician but really into his Gansta, hip hop etc. His wife however likes everything from Agadoo through to "I want to be a hippy" :D
As you can imagine it was a varied night. Alot of the guests left before the end (probably not helped by TI , 2Pac Eminem etc) so at midnight for the last song I think there was 10 people still there inc B&G.
One left tonight where the couple got married abroad last week so this is the big party for all those that didn't go. Only done a couple at tonight's venue before so it'll be nice to go somewhere different for a change.

Someone asked for 'Safety Dance' by Men Without Hats and as soon as I had played it, the 80's requests started flooding in.
Then, after around 90 minutes of a pub that was thin on the ground with customers, people started flooding back. Loads of them said to me that the situation at the gigs was stupid. Too busy, having to pay to get in and also waiting ages for a drink. I knew it would happen.
So, it was 80's all the way until midnight to a decent crowd and they loved it. It made a night that started off mediocre, a good one!
Been on the go a bit today and set up for tonight's 30th Birthday out of town early this morning. Nice little venue (Meade Hall, Crown & Cushion in Minley). No sound limiter, smoke allowed and I don't have to go out the door until about 8.15pm as I am starting at 9.00pm, finishing at Midnight and there's a lot of 80's requests. If the guests are up for it, it could be a good one. Review tomorrow.
I'm losing the will to live!:( If I lose another punter, I'll be into single figures.

i "Cured" the problem by powering my rig from a Socket in the Service cupboard that was on the clean telephone system supply.
Glad i had my trusty Blue 40 metre cable!
Got well paid and was only 32 miles round trip
The Steward asked for a card! i gave him one of someone elses!
I Aint coming back there.
Was a good well attended wedding with around 11 kids to play silly devils with though
i did enjoy it overall

I totally agree. Although the comments may have been made in jest, if it's true then it's a bit silly in my opinion. It would have been much easier to just say what has been suggested above.
Last night I did a 30th Birthday party at a very nice venue 15 miles down the road from me. It was The Meade Hall in Minley. I was supposed to be there in the past for a wedding booking but was ill and on that occasion Paul the Party DJ covered it for me.
Lovely medieval type venue and I have to say first of all - One of the nicest owners I have ever met. Very nice guy who couldn't have been more helpful. Offered me drinks and food throughout the evening (I had a Lime & Soda as always).
Set up was in the morning. 100 guests and I loaded up the extra amp and the bass bins to go with the Mackies. I wondered if I would need them as the ceiling was very high and it was a wooden building. The owner said that most DJ's didn't use them because it was quite a 'booming' (?) sound when they did so I took his word for it. I wish I had set them up in hindsight as although I wasn't pushing the Mackies hard, the sliders on my mixer and main volume were up to maximum (but no gain used) and I have never had to do that. I spread the speakers out away from me which is another thing I don't usually do and it felt weird because I couldn't gauge the volume. I walked out front a couple of times and to the back of the venue and there was plenty there. I just think the bass bins would have filled it out a bit more and stopped the Mackies from doing all of the work.
Anyway, I left the house at 8.10pm which was also weird because I was DJing from 9.00pm - Midnight. I got to the venue around 8.35pm. I wasn't sure why this was the case even though I had lots of communication by email with the customer. On arrival I noticed that firstly, everyone was dressed in medieval attire and there was a string quartet playing. The party had started at 6.30pm with a medieval type banquet / buffet and the string quartet had started at 7.30pm.
When I got there, there were lots of people outside in the garden area and those that were inside seemed a bit bored. I watched the string quartet perform a couple of songs and after each one, there was a slight ripple of applause. I felt a bit bad for them. I had never met the customer before and spoke to someone at the bar who pointed her out so I went over and introduced myself. She was lovely!
I had the feeling that because of the current atmosphere with the string quartet playing and me DJing for 3 hours, I would need to get them all up on the dancefloor quickly and hoped they were up for it. As the ladies from the string quartet were packing up, I decided to start getting some smoke into the venue to create an atmosphere and then turned on the starcloth and lights and people cheered. I knew I would be in for a good night.
I asked everyone to thank the ladies who were now leaving and everyone clapped and the ladies thanked me. I then kicked the night off with some current chart stuff and the dancefloor filled up instantly. The request list wasn't that big but on it were some 80's tracks and some rockier tracks too. One of them was 'In the end' by Linkin Park so I made a special announcement for it for the birthday girl and the place went wild. Lots of very nice young ladies dressed in medieval costumes were all rocking out to it so I decided to do an Indie / Rock set for a while and it worked a treat.
The 3 hours shot by and it looked like everyone had a great time. I really enjoyed it myself. Last song of the night was 'Don't stop me now' by Queen and then that was it. The majority of people stayed until the end and gave a massive round of applause. I also got the birthday girl on the mic and she loved it. I even got a hug from her and her friends were shouting "Get in there!".
If anyone does a gig at this venue, I would advise taking bass bins or a sub because of the high ceiling. As I said, the venue owner was very helpful and he was also complimentary on my set up and the way the night went and lastly, couldn't believe how quick I was in packing up and getting out.
