Good Gig, Bad Gig.

Last nights Wedding in a Marquee in the grounds of Gilbert White Museum , Selbourne , Nr Alton

Around 100 guests , background music from 3:00pm , strict finish at 11:00pm, cracking night , people dancing from the off ( no not a rammed floor...:D :D ).
I have to say , it was one of the best gigs I have done , everyone was up for a good night , the caterers insisted I was well fed , a very nice gesture , the party its self carried on in a pub down the road , and I heard it went on until 2:00am , no equipment worries , sound was great , lighting was good , all in all , I am happy with my rig.

Only the odd 1 or 2 & (as was pointed out to me last week) you don't know whether any announcements were made between the big genre changes. On the whole it flows quite well.

Absolute banger for me - Definitely up there with the best gigs of the year so far. It was in a marquee (40th Birthday) in West Sussex - In the middle of nowhere, a place called Tillington.

I arrived for set up at around 5:30 - It was absolutely tearing it down, but my mood was still upbeat. Started at 7pm with current chart, light background music. The client asked for a Ibiza Chillout vibe during food service so I got to play some really nice Chillout House before kicking things off at around 9:30 (despite a power trip and failure to get Traktor to sync with the Denon HD-2500 on restart - I ended up using VDJ - this took me 10 mins to sort out!!! All because someone had smashed a bulb in a lighting fixture and caused a trip)

The pre-requests were typical Commercial Dance - Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris, Chris Brown, Black Eyed Peas with some Party Classics thrown in for good measure.

All in all a very nice crowd, really up for it (well and truly battered) - Very complimentary and really appreciative. I was kept amused by the fact the majority of the guests were abusing Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) towards the end of the night. Ha Ha Ha!

I intended to finish the night on time, and played Red Carpet - Alright as my last track (to cheers and applause) and ended up playing another 45 mins of Club Classics, it was an absolute pleasure and would of played the extra for free. But still charged :D :D :D

My thoughts also, it's a decent playlist but the eratic changes of genres, tempos, and eras struck me as a bit odd, but if it worked, it doesn't matter.

Had a really fun wedding yesterday.

Set-up early to be ready for afternoon background music and was told I had a bar tab for food and drink courtesy of the B&G so I could have lunch whilst waiting to start - how considerate is that.

We had quite a few older Irish guests so traditional set dancing in-between the Motown, Jazz/Swing and 80's Soul (with a bit of cheese) was in order. Having a dancefloor of merry Mrs Browns dancing to waltzes, reels and jigs guaranteed a great atmosphere (the Siege of Ennis was something to behold).

Got caught in torrential downpours on the way home, but luckily it started just as I finished loading, and eased of as I got home. The journey was a nightmare though, at some points couldn't see more than a few metres in front of me - unbelievable the speed some people were driving at in those conditions!

Personally I don't think you can question or criticize a playlist. You have no idea what was happening at the gig at the time. For instance, we've all had requests we really do not want to play and hope the person requesting it has a few more falling over liquids and forgets. However, they don't and keep returning to remind you that you still haven't played it, so you do. You make an announcement and play it. This looks odd in your highly tuned playlist.

I appreciate this may only happen a couple of times a night but it does happen.

I look at playlists in bunches, three or four tracks at a time to see what sits well together.

I have in the past, on a couple of occasions tried playing somebody's playlist all the way through as an experiment. They have stated they had a full http://planetsmilies.net/shocked-smiley-9483.gif floor all night, so I thought okay if it was a winner for them why can't it be a winner for me?

It failed on both nights, played four or five songs in order, and the dance floor started to clear.

So we just don't know, what we may think looks wrong could have worked a dream. :D

Just to update this , the floor was busy all night , the list may look random , but it worked on that occasion ,and I was pestered by a few people for songs all night , I also had a 38 song list from the B&G , so had to do a balancing act , still it was a good night.
Gave out 174 cards and took confirmed bookings for 35 weddings next year at £4500 each ( a joke , really.....:D :D ).
