So did the Butlers Chocolates Xmas gig on Saturday. Last year they had 2 parties, one for cafe & production staff & one for the office staff. This year (probably to save money!) they had one joint party. I took my 00DJ & my kam mixer & plugged into the house P.A. they had a vol control behind the bar & I set my master about 2/3. That was fine while background music on, but when the place started filling up although I turned my vol up & they said the bar vol was full up, it still wasn't very loud.
They have a club downstairs & I think that had something to do with it. I turned the gain up till just clipping the red, but still not high. I was using the gigaport soundcard, but also have a realtec. There was one of those denon cd/mixer things under the DJ box, but didn't use that as when I went to check connections last week it was fine. But of course the place was pretty empty.
I've since found out that because there's people living above the place they have a sound limiter. The plaves got a little empty about 12:30am and I think it was because they thought it was my fault. They either went somewhere else or down to the club. As I went to the toilets at the back of the place, I passed the stairway down to the club and could hear the music from it, although there were a couple of speakers up on the wall for the house PA.
Because there were so many people and the bar is very narrow, hardly anyone danced, think they just drank the free wine, used thier 3 free drinks tickets, then drifted off to somewhere else. There's a club across the road and plenty of other place within about 5mins walk, & probably cheaper drinks. That coupled with the fact the music was basically at bockground volume made for a bit of a long night. But I played thier requests, got fed & watered, didn't get any drunken punters, and the big boss said he was impressed with my setup and even thanked me personally at the end of the night. I didn't get any free choccys though :(

Just got back from Cave Castle Hotel in South Cave. Its about 20 miles away from home.
Its not been a bad night. Had them all dancing all night. A lot of them tonight liked fifties/sixties music with a bit of seventies in there and eighties.
Tonight i took with me. 2 lasers, 2 scanners and the efx on the truss rig.

Well to elucidate a little bit for poor Charlie, who's not familiar with a gagging order, and apparently hasn't woken up to answer his phone yet, here's the full SP.
I was covering for him at a Cafe bar in Derby, and was booked as a good old fashioned "Wedding Party" DJ. I arrived early, and as it's basically a walk in, was soon set up. Since the room was already heaving with punters, I started up before my contracted start time, and was soon taking requests.
I was upstairs, and being piped downstairs as well, and when I put a slowie on early doors, got the message from the manager" Keep it lively". No problem, so I did do, with appropriate use of the mic to whip them up into a frenzy. ( Believe all of that, and you can knit fog!! ) :D :D :D :D
Next message from management downstairds, " CXan you not use the mic, as they're still eating downstairs" !!!!!!! :confused: :confused: :eek: :eek: I wonder if I was putting them off the Turkey dinners?
OK, I can cope with that, so settle down for playing "All the usual suspects". Errr, no. Apparently downstairs is now full of young punters, so can we have the usual charty dross. My crowd upstairs ebbs and flows dramatically, but we're having fun, and the staff are having a ball, so Charlie, to borrow a phrase from Hiitchikers Guide to the Galaxy:
