Friday's gig was a bit tiring as the cold I have got seems to be getting worse. I was in the 'aches and pains' stage etc and the last thing I wanted to do was stand there and play music. I wanted to be in bed.
It was an older crowd too and so the stuff I have been playing throughout the Christmas Party period (lots of Current Chart) didn't last too long as they wanted lots of classics and cheese etc....A good night though and I was back indoors with a cup of tea by 12.15pm.
Couldn't sleep though and come 5.15am I was still laying there so decided to get up. Was at the other venue for 10.30am to set up the Uplighting and help set up the Disco for a wedding. By the way, I can 10000% confirm that where the Disco was set up, there was NO fire exit at all. No signs or anything and if I ever had the slightest doubt, I asked the venue owner if there had ever been a sign there before. His answer was "Never".
Home by Midday and straight to bed. Didn't sleep but watched the Darts all day until it was time to go to the last Christmas Party at the residency. 80 people and an older crowd again. Same kind of thing as Friday really. There were a few younger girls there who were absolutely smashed on the company bar tab but other than that, a really enjoyable party.
It was funny actually. There were 3 companies in plus a table of 2 older couples who were sat on their own. They didn't get up once all evening (only to go to the bar and at a guess I'd say for a fag or toilet break) BUT they asked me for a card and said they'd really enjoyed the music selection. I also gave out another 2 to other guests who asked for them.
The best thing though, and this may sound silly really but it meant a lot to me because it showed that some people DO listen....was when a lady came up at the end as she was leaving and said "Thanks Gary, very enjoyable". At first I thought "How did she know my name?" but then realised that I introduce myself to everyone before I start when I welcome them all in. I thought that was nice.
Still sat here unable to sleep at 4.50am and full of cold. In a few hours time I will be back at the hotel to get the equipment out, back at the other venue to get the Uplighting out and once it's all checked and packed away, that's it for me for a few days.

Brilliant gig last night, in a pub which I dont normally do but the pay was good, Was booked 8 - 12 and was home by 11:30, not much to report as there was only 4 people there :beer1: :beer1:
last night was our final adult christmas party this year, 200 people all up for a good night.
lots of requests including Jackie Wilson's Higher & Higher which id forgotten about, went down very well

i had one of those nights where the groups just clashed if one group suddenly outnumbered the other one they would go and sit back down and if one group requested a song and a shoutout the other group would stay sat down but then come up ten minutes later and request the same song.
I'm not really a Christmas party sort of DJ, I don't enjoy them very much so choose not to do them (have done plenty in the past though) But although that means I'm less busy than most this time of year I still get some good non Christmas gigs.
Good:
Last night I was DJ'ing for a local Ska bands CD launch - final count was 470 tickets sold, lots of skins and mods, a fantastic friendly atmosphere and before, between and after the band I played Ska, Northern Soul, Mod classics and a bit of funk at the end - and not a Christmas tune in sight!
Bad:
Only downside was the venue's sound system decided not to work (it's really good when it does!) and the band had no free inputs in their mixer for me. So had to rush home and get my pair of K12's or bale out of the gig completely.
I borrow bass bins for any bigger gigs as I don't have any of my own (must remedy this soon) - unfortunately it was too short notice to get them last night!
The band had taken the whole width of the venue with their stage so I had no room to set up next to them (as I had arranged to do). So I was stuck on the side of the dancefloor area between two sets of stairs with no room to safely use speaker stands - so the K12's were put on top of each other, shoved against the wall and bass boost on!
Luckily the venue has excellent acoustics and they sounded much better than I thought they would. Walking around the room when it was fairly full the bass was there and the mids and highs were getting through, people were dancing all over the place (even upstairs) so I was very happy with their performance - obviously would've been better with some bins but they didn't embarrass me. Venue manager couldn't believe it was just a pair of 12"s when I was chatting to him afterwards.
