Me too, but I'm even more confused why the whole post needed to be quoted to make the point :con:

Im even more confused why you all keep going on about it lol
I had kind of 2 ends of the spectrum this weekend. Totally different gigs.
Friday was a Surprise Joint 40th Birthday. I posted the list of requests that the guy sent me and for the first time in yonks, I didn't veer away from it. There were so many good tracks on it that were requested in advance that I thought I'd stick with it and it worked a treat.
Apart from people actually wanting / needing a break when the buffet came out (some still carried on), it was pretty full on all night.
Some really good things about the night were:
People were well up for a party and loved the tunes.
Almost everybody stayed until the end of the night.
I gave out a couple of cards too for upcoming birthdays (also 40th's)
Lastly, I had that "Do you do weddings?" question from a couple of people too.
Loved every minute of friday and wish they were all like that.
Last night (Saturday) was an engagement party at another venue. Once again it had the potential to be a good one but it didn't really happen. It was stop/start/stop/start almost all night. The couple were Mid-20's and a lot of the guests were the same. The girl had compiled a list of requests that were mainly current chart / RnB / Garage / Dancehall / Reggae and some 80's classics. The guy didn't have much input and really just asked for some Killers / Sum 41 and some Linkin Park but said only if I could fit it in because most of his girlfriends mates were into the other stuff.
Over 120 guests and I reckon the most on the dancefloor at it's busiest was 30. They were on one minute and off the next. I didn't get to see much of the couple as they were arguing apparently. It was one of those gigs where it just seemed to go on and on and on..... The last 90 minutes was probably the most encouraging as the drinks had obviously started taking effect and the Garage set went down really well. It bought back memories of my days in the Yates's and Litten Tree venues. I never really liked Garage at the time but it was quite good hearing it and I enjoyed mixing the likes of Monstaboy / KC & Jo Jo / Sweet Female Attitude / Artful Dodger / MJ Cole / Architects and Wide Boys. The girls loved it and knew every word to every song.
I don't think it was the best night ever but the last 90 minutes probably saved it from being a rubbish gig. Didn't see the girl at the end as apparently she just left and went into town with her mates as soon as it had finished. The guy came up and thanked me and then said he had to rush off to try and catch up with his girlfriend.
As I said, it had the potential to be a good one. The pre-party meeting with the couple was great and they were both enthusiastic (especially the girl). It just didn't go as I thought or expected it might.
One thing that did throw me off track slightly was when a very loud girl who had drunk far too much came over and shouted at me to play some cheese. I said to her that the couple had said that they didn't want any cheese and I showed her the list of requests...She said "Change of plan, scrap all of that and play some cheese, it's what the Bride to be wants!!".... I stuck to what was on the request list and thought that if the girl wanted cheese, she would soon tell me.
She didn't.
Well a hectic and interesting week for me! Valentines Day saw me doing a wedding in a local Sports Hall ( fitted with drapes, looked lovely ) where Jeanette was invited as well. I set off early, and got set up, while Jeanette followed later. Before she arrived, I got a phone call saying that a relative had died, and when Jeanette came in I could see she'd had the call as well. I wasn't really up for being the life and soul, and the evening wasn't superb, as the Bride wanted lots of 60's and 70's, and many of the punters didn't. I was in a hurry to get home, after what could be described as a merely satisfactorily night.
Thursday's account has already been posted earlier, the School gig where I nearly fouled it up, as I was using a smaller rig than normal in preparation for Friday night's 80th. The 80th was an upstairs with no lift, so you can tell why that was my cunning plan.
The best laid plans of mice and men gang aft agley. :( I wasn't happy to use the backup playout, so ended up carrying the monster case up a flight of stairs. The main playout mixer then decided to lose the use of one fader, so I ended up only using the laptop for the rest of the night. Nobody moved until the wrinklies had left with half an hour to go, and then it was action station central on the dancefloor. Fabulous. :(
So, Saturday sees me ferreting around in the case to see if I can find the problem. Until the phone rings, and a mate needs cover for a gig, where the venue have hasd some confusion. They had a 30th Birthday for Gemma booked, and a 30th Birthday for Emma. :D :D :D Only on Saturday did they realise that they were two bookings, not one. Cue a hasty shoving back of bits into a case, and a quick trip out to Hull.
A gig with very nice folk, slightly slow initially, and packed floor for the last hour. Following this gig, I can now officially declare myself a "Laptop DJ", as I used it exclusively all night.  :D :D :D :D :D :D
PS, it's official about the recession. ;) In the clothing trade, anyway. My, but they aren't half cutting down on the material they use in frocks these days!!!!
Had an 18th birthday party last night. The girls mother asked if i could play some bhangra and asian music,i said yes of course but can you supply me with some popular tunes.I had 1 week to prepare for this,i thought it went well.so did most of the party guests. It was a good mixture of modern chart rn b plus the bhangra tunes.
Thank goodness for the bpm counter plus the sync option on virtual dj
First gig this year , hope there are many more like it...:D
Very small pub , holds around 25 , then it`s packed , great crowd , it is the 7th time I have played there , this time was for a 40th birthday , people dancing most of the night , the birthday girl loved 90`s dance , it just so happens so do I..:D ,quite a few drunks toward the end , luckily the ultimax aux rail can take the weight of a fully grown idiot.. :D , started at 7:15 and ended at 12:30 , proud Mary went down a storm , in fact I played it twice.
Couple of pics on http://www.forum.mobilediscodirector...ad.php?t=37145 , shows how small the pub is , and the low celling , funny enough , my next gig is karaoke/disco in my local village pub, celling is just as low , I know that weddings are better payers ( generally) and probably a bit more up market , but I like the WMC and pub gigs , and in my case they pay well , and a bit of blatant trumpet blowing , the two WMC and three pubs that are regular for me, have great nights , that's why they pay well.
The bricklayers don't like to much change in the music , I use the same play list most times , with a few new tracks thrown in , when the same people come up and ask for the same songs every time , you get to know.
songs like Ace of Bass - all that she wants , Lionel Richie - dancing on the celling ,Journey - don`t stop believing and this time around , moves like Jagger, and levels by Avicii .
each to their own in this business....:D :D

Had a 50th last night, surprizingly large crowd, shame they didnt dance much.
The night got off to a bad start. Id reversed upto the main door to unload, leaving about 10 feet between the car and the door. A man (about 65) who was leaving told me 'you cant park there, move it!!!'
I told him i was only unloading, and i'd be 2 minutes, and pointed out id left plenty room for people to use the door. The man wouldnt give up, he kept telling me to 'move it'
I gave in and moved the car 3 feet forward, got back out the car. In my annoyed frame of mind i then said 'there you go, how much difference does that make?' He came quickly towards me shouting 'im going to knock your :Censored: block off'
A few more cross words were said before he eventually left.
I know it wasnt proffesional of me to argue with him, but his attitude sucked. He wasnt staff or management of the venue and had no business telling me what to do.
It put me in a poor frame of mind for the whole night
Rant over, this may be my last post, im going shark diving today :D
