Dj Foureyes , Charlie........... Yes, it was loud enough. You can't see it but I had one Peavey Pro2 sub behind the starcloth. I would have liked to have used the other one but like I said, space was scarce and I know people would have put their drinks on them.Quote:

Well, after another successful rock night on Friday, I was buzzing for this one - an engagement party in Hornsea for quite a bit more than I normally charge too. Lots of emails between the client and myself and all contracts done digitally and deposit direct into bank account.
I arrived at 6 to set up and met the young couple who's engagement party it was (probably both very early 20's), they promptly paid the remaining fee and I had a brief chat with them about how they wanted the evening to 'pan-out' - they just said they'd leave it to me and to try and play any requests which I said I would.
Overall, not a bad night but the thing that astonished me was the fact that the young fiance (male?) seemed more interested in jumping around with his mates than spending time with his fiancee.
Even when I tried to get them up for that last dance (Time of My Life) and to get all the guests to gather round in a circle he just wanted to 'hang' with his mates - she looked a little :Censored: off to be honest and I can't blame her.
They all thanked me as they left and it was an easy load in and out thanks to the automatic doors. Times were 7:30pm - 12:00am and only 20-30 mins journey time so all in all, not too bad.
:Hi there: First time posting on here, figured it'd be good to air a bit of frustration over my bad gig.
Did my first wedding disco in about 2 years at the weekend, finally blowing the cobwebs off my gear and deciding it was a good time to start back out on the road after a 2 year break.
Was really looking forward to the gig, a last minute booking due to a letdown, and I knew the father of the bride from work.
Gig was an Italian - english wedding at quite a nice hotel - sudbury house.
Spoke to the bride a couple of nights beforehand to verify timings and requests for the first dance etc - turned out to be nothing special, not even any requests for Italian music (weird!)
The night started out well, kept the kids entertained whilst the adults met and greeted, then moved on to some more adult background music before the first dance at 8.45.
Naturally party went into swing mode after this but buffet announcement brought everyone back down to earth. Managed to get everyone back up again after they'd eaten - and I thought all was going well, when suddenly people started leaving aproximately 11ish :run:
I'd had maybe 2 requests all evening and bk complaints or dodgy looks from the punters, but something didn't sit right. I had an hour and a half to go and near enough empty room (bar was at other end of hotel reception - bad idea :bang:)
Kept playing a variety of genres to the blank faced stragglers at the back - but only had the hotels waitresses dancing away as they made their rounds.
Then suddenly, 15 mins from the end the bride, and her family made an appearance and were in serious boogie mode - but was only able to squeeze about 8 songs in before being told to wrap it up!
Dispute the applause and numerous thank you'd from the remaining few, I couldn't help feeling very deflated and perhaps that I've lost my touch?! :banghead:
Mark, I'd say that from your account, you did fairly much what most of us would have tried, so don't beat yourself up too much on that account.Quote:

Duff one on Saturday, not terrible, but a deflating experience.
Upstairs for a start. Early retirement party, in a room for 120, only 30 turned up, over half of those invited didn't come.
Played the requested selection of 60s, 70s, 80s, a few dancers but there was hardly anyone in the room to get up in the first place.
Was asked for some up to date stuff, even Move Like Jagger couldn't raise them.
10 mins to go, asked for a Waltz (never happened before), managed to track one down, 6 dancers of about 15 people left, ended the night feeling a little low really.
Got a booking for a 40th this morning, a whole lot better prospect, so happy again now.
