Best gig ever on Saturday - 200+ 18th birthday party - All dance / club music - took a 2k system - by 9pm had dancefloor packed and at 11pm had em up dancing on tables around venue - Was at Chesham Football club - Right next to my residency so manage to plug that night well -

wasnt expecting much from last nights (thursday) joint 18th birthday. It was for 2 males. Previous experiance of male 18th's consist of a few ok ones, many where no one turns up, and a few where they all fight.
I was pleasently surprized to get 90 people, half family, half their mates, plenty dancing and requests, and the majority stayed to the end.
Not looking forward to tonights gig though. Cant park closer than 50 yards from the venue (on double yellow lines), up two flights of stairs, no Pauline to help me and its a males 21st who wants karaoke and 'lots of scottish country dancing' :(
And to make things even better, its meant to be pouring with rain while im unloading the gear

last nights 21st went pretty much as i expected.
nightmare access, got moaned at by the police for parking on double yellow lines while unloading. Hurt my back while carrying the speakers up 2 flights of stairs and had no more than 30 people all night.
The birthday boy was dressed as woody from toy story, he was the only person dressed up. He insisted on playing party games, which few people joined in with, only 3 people used the karaoke and most of the guests left at 10.30pm to go clubbing.
Only good bit was finishing an hour early due to a lack of guests.
"Interesting" one for me last night. I headed into Lincolnshire for a gig wioth Penfold's happy band of Legslappers, and was delighted to find that with the new van I don't get overtaken by every vehicle on the road, in fact I even passed a couple myself! . :jumping: Then I hit the A15. Afficionados of the road network of Great Britain will know how much chaos a tanker travelling at 40 mph can cause on this particular bit of highway. :mad:
No problem, I arrived at the venue, set up, and was surprised to see that the average age of the punters looked to be between 18 and 21. Normally it's a lot nearer mine.
Their behaviour was to put it politely "Boisterous". When I was packing up, the venue staff had other words for it. I agreed with them.
When I started my little slot, they were eager, they then got bored, until we had requests for Meatloaf, Journey, Killers, and Kings of Leon, at which point they were somewhat frenzied. When I'd announced and played my last song, we got the "just one more................... " et al. No chance. I packed up through the drink, food, polystyrene ( no idea where that came from :confused: :confused: ) and glass surrounding my rig, and headed home in unaccustomed comfort, with no serious draughts, and a heater that actually works. I like my new van. :D
Local one tonight, 21st at a Social Club with less gear needed, so let's see how that goes.
Exactly the same on the A47 Acle to Great Yarmouth ( 9 miles perfectly straight apart from one bend in the middle) and prety much most of the 50 miles of the A12 between Great Yarmouth and Ipswich. Wonderful decision by politicians to pass a law restricting HGVs to 40mph on single carriageways. They obviously live in places where all main roads are dual carriageway or motorway :(Quote:

I didn't have a gig last night but I thought I'd post this as I thought it was funny.
I was setting up for tonights surprise 40th Birthday party at one of my residencies. There were a group of women in who had travelled down for a Wedding and were staying at the hotel overnight and ready to go out on the town. They noticed me setting up and asked if I could play them a song before they went out. I said I'd check if it was ok and give them a shout as they went to the bar.
Had a word with the Manager and she said it was ok as I needed to soundcheck anyway.When I'd finished setting up I went to the bar and the ladies followed me to the room. I played them Whitney Houston and they went mad for it (there were only 8 of them). They too asked for "One More!" and I had the feeling that they may start taking the piddle so I fibbed and said "Last one ladies as I need to be somewhere else". They were cool and I played One Direction for them which they asked for. They couldn't thank me enough and left to go and sample the delights of Basingstoke (ahem...).
Manager said to me afterwards, "That's what I like about you Gary, nothing is too much trouble is it". I was chuffed with that. I had to soundcheck anyway so it didn't make much difference to me to be honest.
When we go to visit my wifes parents we have to go down the Acle Straights. It's a nightmare on there and everytime I have driven down that road, I have had near misses from either motorbikes or other cars who just can't be bothered to stick to the rules.Quote:

Whilst the road itself is totally inadequate for the volume of traffic, the road itself ISNT dangerous IF treated with respect, its the people using it as you have noted above.
