I wondered about gaffa. I dont think they would take kindly to me drilling holes in their floors at some of the places I play at.
Why dont your floors creep Solitaire? What makes them in your words "decent"?
Does the lay of the pile on the carpet have an effect? ie - wouldn't the floor travel in the same direction as the pile? If so, would it be possible to set up on another side to avoid it moving into your gear?
I've had a couple of problems with wandering dance floors.
Once was a cheapo green plastic dance floor on top of a sheet of polythene, and they had to get everyone off it to pull it back into position several times in the evening.
The second time was more surprising. A disco several years ago at a nice hotel in Egham. It was a standard wooden dance floor with the silver trim, and was gradually getting closer & closer to my disco.
By the end of the evening, I was virtually pinned against the wall, and if the disco had gone on any longer, I'd have had to get everyone off while it got moved back into position.
I can only assume that the floor was on a slight slope towards the end of the room where the disco was.....although the staff said they'd never known it happen before when I mentioned it to them.
Weird!
