Oh I thought he meant he ALWAYS started with that one. Oops! Never heard of it but just listened and seems an ok pop party tune. How on earth did I miss it? Never heard it before. Bizarre.
One I attended on Friday. We had our works do at a local hotel and the Dj did it all good. Chatty at start welcoming us and introducing himself etc. Let us have our meal in peace with background at the right level the came back to kick off the party after giving away a bottle of bubbly raffle style. Got them up after 3 or 4 songs and was away nicely. He was using Bose so superb sound but unfortunately his presentation was awful. Saggy starcloth and 2 old-school flashing trafficlight boxes with naked bulbs on super fast chase on the floor either side of booth (this were on for the whole meal too!), a couple of weak and ineffective lasers on his goalpost overhead and that was it. He also sat down all night which I think looks terrible.
Such a shame as he did the job right, had the best sound and great host skills. Just obviously feels that lighting and presentation aren't important.
I had 5 Christmas Parties this week and I only did 1 of them. It was actually very good but I had a very bad week what with one thing or another.
My wife went in to hospital a couple of weeks ago for a big operation and she is slowly recovering thankfully but it's going to be at least the end of January until she returns to work. I'm running around looking after her as well as everything else and if that isn't bad enough, we very sadly had to have one of our boxers put to sleep which was (still is) absolutely heartbreaking. My head just wasn't with it this week to go out and do the job to the best of my ability.
I'd like to publicly thank Daryl once again for doing a great job covering me last night. 3 more parties left and I am going all out to make sure that I do them as best as I can.

Things are so bad on the drive that I managed to miss the turning for the venue even when I knew where it was this time - dark green sign with dark gold text and no lighting is not a great combination when driving in the dark.
It turns out the bit I turned off definitely is some sort of entrance onto the course (for golf buggies or the groundskeeper's ATV I assume) and even with full beam on, in similar weather conditions to Friday, I could barely see 10 feet in front of me so I'm fairly convinced that whilst I might be the 1st person to actually have gone right onto the course, I'm not the only one who has been totally flumoxed by the lay out of this drive.
On a positive note, with what little I could see, there didn't seem to be any damage to the course - to be fair everything I could see had been turned to a bog due to the horrendous rain at the weekend.
Turns out the chap I've been dealing with re: the booking is the owners son and he didn't seem too stressed by it on Saturday so here's hoping it's nothing more than a daft story they can laugh about in the club house in months to come.
Deary me! What a start to a gig. Arrive to find that the van's not as full of gear as I thought. Oops. Undaunted, I rig up what I've got with cables from the spare spare box of bits. Then I find out a passive top doesn't want to play. Surprisingly, I can get the actives going. Worst of all though, the mics aren't here either. I'm now doing an impersonation of Biggles with the headphones. All good fun, lads and lasses.
Still, I've got venue wifi, so not all bad
