I had the same Thursday night - end of year school leavers do - 80 girls! No men at all! First group - we love cheese, second group, play something new, we love R'n'b, third group, whats all this nonsense. we want some Indie Rock - so we went round in circles all night, alienating at least two thirds of the audience whatever was played! Only saving grace was that they had all cleared off by 11.30pm! Money in me pocket!!
My wedding on Saturday had 27 kids with no adults on the floor for a lot of the early part of the night.Within the 1st 10 mins a child had run into one of my lights and I though that would set the tone for me.As it turned out,the night ended up fine apart from the obligatory adult who spent the entire night winding up the kids by chasing them round the dancefloor:bang:
Had a really good gig tonight. It was for a 6th form prom for a catholic school.
Started off with easy swing and jazz. This went down quite well as they were eating for 2 1/2 hours. lol. So I just sat there and let the playlist play. This was the first time I have used a play list. It did jump once but I don't know what caused that.
After eating the party started. Play 10,000 nights by Alphabeat which pack out for floor and was 90% packed all night. Everyone was up for a good time and thats what I gave them. There was a few tables of people who wanted bangra so I played a selection of what cd's the loaned me.
It started to kick off a bit. These 2 tables wanted an hour set of bangra but I was told not to do that as the other people were getting annoyed becuse they cant understand the lyrics. Anyway, I was told by the client to refuse them and she would take the blame. I said no and they left. Not my fault at all.
Apart from that it was a very very good night. Would of been handy if I had another sub to boost up the power a but hey....you cant have everything.
Lots of new chart music, drum and bass plus lots of cheese. Brilliant gig. :)

Today (Sat 5th) I did one party in Watford (11am - 1pm) then drove across the country for my second party in Northampton (4pm-6pm)Phewww!!!
Made it ok and the 2 parties were astonishing.
So whats wrong with an 8pm-midnight gig as well ? :D :D :DQuote:

But saying that, my week end next week is =
Sat 12th = 10am - 10:45am + 3pm - 3:45pm on stage at the airshow at RAF Fairford, then after that straight to Gerrards Cross (2 hour drive) for a 40th.
Sunday 13th = 10am - 10:45 + 4pm - 5pm back at RAF Fairford
Monday 14th = 5pm - 7pm (10 yr old party)

Good gig? Anything involving the Cortex and Laptop, both of which I;'m beginning to come to terms with. The customers are absolutely made up with me being able to source tracks in seconds. :D I'm quite happy too. ;)
Bad gig? Those of you who only ever take your motors across tarmac, play in five star hotels, and wear the sharpest of sharp suits, will be sadly unfamiliar with the joys of performing from a trailer which has a damaged floor, is as stable as a jelly in an earthquake, from a power supply of dubious quality, in a shed full of drunk 18yr old Young Farmers. You don't know what you're missing. ;) :D :D ( On the plus side, when I'd finished, I reversed the van right up to the "Stage" and loaded up:D :D :D )
Why is it that they always think you'll love lifting all the gear six feet skywards on to a platform which separates you from the crowd, is unstable, and nowhere near anything useful? :confused: :bang: :bang: :bang:
The good news( :confused: ), same crowd, different venue next week! :eek: Let's hope there's no trailer. I'm taking the goalpost truss, just in case, so it can go aloft, without me and the deckstand! ;) :D :D
Well my gig was a good/bad gig.
Yesterday we arrived at Bolton castle (Which is not in Bolton) at around 3:30 to provide some background ceremony music, great, So we moved the van around to the entrance behind where was greeted by 20 odd steps, so we thought not a problem and went to see where we was, We went through an old door and then up 45 spiraling medievil steps. Got to the function room at the top where the cermony was going to be held, We did the music for the ceremony and then moved the Denon kit into the other room to play through the meal music, On the way there we was carrying a small deckstand with the denon box on top and the amp underneath, we was managing until a waiter came over and tried to help and launched the box off the stand into the wall taking off some knobs on the denon hard drive controller. So we got that bit of kit into that room and while they were eating we set up the ultimax stand with all the lighting on, winched it up and was just ready to put the tops on the bass bins and then the denon box onto the deckstand, so we had some food with the photographers and video guys and arranged the 1st dance, we worked from 9:15 - 11:30 on the disco and had a solid floor all nighjt,
I wouldn't recomend this venue to anybody unless you are willing to tackle 65 steps.
