I went to a very interesting hotel last night. Very nice staff / owners who even offered me a room for practically nothing but as I've got a busy day today I declined. Lovely setting setup on a hillside balcony. Only 1 single request and "70s music onwards" ... in contrast I've got a wedding tonight which I'm just about to leave for and their playlist has a few more suggestions!

One more wedding this weekend then a nice break til Thursday.
My new laptop is really nice & is actually better than advertised. A dell recon unit, it was meant to be 4GB RAM, core i5 at 2.4ghz with 3 usb ports & 500GB HDD. What did I get? 2.5ghz, 8GB RAM & 1TB HDD. Bonus!
One drawback is its screen resolution. Much higher than my old one so I need to wear my specs to work. Bum.
Anyway tonight I don't have a playlist as such but suggestions like Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Script.... Should be interesting.
Not an amazing gig last and had to deal with a couple of pains in my backside (oh how I love other DJs who have to tell you that they're a DJ too and start offering advice), but the bride was happy. 2am finish became a 1:30 finish and I was so tired that I was more than happy to oblige with the venue's wishes.
And the t-bar....OK, I'll admit, it looked alright in this room.

But I still hate it. It's a pain to set up and the reason I put my plinth uplighters along the walls was to highlight the trip hazard of the tripod.
Decent enough gig tonight, but I've never seen so many kids at a wedding. It was like a school playground!
Managed to get into the room just after the official start time. Needless to say that the first dance may get pushed back by at least a minute or so.
Lots of reggae, plenty of hip hop and a dose of cheese that grated against me (see what I did there? Yeah you did!).
Kit taken down, van loaded, drove home and packed away the kit in less than an hour. That's an excitement level that is indescribable.
And no t-bar! Woo!

Oh dear--2 nights before I was in an acoustically perfect room with curtains and carpets, Yammy Box Amp, 2 Peavey Pro 15s and the Alto Sub= lovely.
I really struggled to get the sound I wanted although no one else probably was bothered---all having a great time--but it certainly reminded me what a difference the sub can make for MY ENJOYMENT during the evening--predictably when I wound up the bass it sounded ok in the Marquee--but absolutely fantastic about 50 yards away from the Marquee where no one was listening other than annoyed neighbours--actually there were none luckily.:rolleyes:
Maybe the Peavey UL15s would have helped--no one would have noticed--move on. :D
Last night's wedding was a fairly laid-back, quietish affair.
Quiet that is, apart from the guitarist & vocalist I had to mic up so they could play a short set including a cover of 'Smells Like Teen Spririt'. The lad was actually going to play along to a backing track from Youtube on his phone! Whoa there sonny Jim. We reached an amicable solution. The original idea (not mine) was for the singer to borrow a mic & go through my PA but the guitarist's tiny little amp was er.. tiny. So, I mic'd them both up. Vocal mic was wired & I improvised a stand for my trusty old Trantec (now given a new lease of life by way of a PCB repair to fix the power socket on the receiver - it's gonna be good for another 20 years I tell ya!) which I plonked dead centre towards the speaker in his baby amp. Soundchecked & declared it good. Except the singer kept forgetting the microphone works best when placed near the mouth if not singing loudly enough. Polite rounds of applause between songs, and then my bit.
Turned out the couple had already cut the cake but wanted to repeat it for the benefit of guests who wanted photos. So we did, which was swiftly followed by their first dance.
Onwards & upwards we trawled, through a path of rock old & new, with some 80s pop thrown in for good measure. Numbers steadily dwindled from around 80 to more like 20 by 10pm but people were enjoying the tunes.
For the last half hour I don't think I tickled any more than one LED on the mixer's output meter. Reprised the first dance on request as the last tune & we all said goodnight. Actually they said it was a very good night & thanked me very much. No problem said I, it was a pleasure. It really was, too.
A point of note - it was the old manager's (on the staff for 30 years no less) last day & my first encounter with the new one. I don't know what's coming other than I'll now be working very closely with the new wedding coordinator. They've never had one of them for years so things in general should get a lot better.
