It was the same venue as before - Boothferry Golf Club, but this was for a formal dinner christmas dance.
They were a really nice crowd and danced pretty much all night after the dinner. Although there was only about 30 people, it was a nice (kind of informal) night. I was getting a lot of attention from a pretty young lady (about 20ish) who pretty much stayed by my side most of the night :D (ah, if only I was single and about 15 years younger) :p :D :D Although thinking about it, there wasn't many others there of her age so maybe she just wanted to chat!
I got lots of praise and one guy even came over and asked for the mic, I thought he was going to do a bit of a speech (as there had been 2 previous) but all he did was sing (not literally) my praises and I got a huge round of applause.
Handed out 3 business cards and got another huge round of applause at the end.
A far cry from the previous event at the same venue!
It does make you realise why we do this - the memorable good days and the forgetful bad days.:D
And I thought I'd given you the soggy end of the stick again! You won't get another good one from me now! :p Mine wasn't as good as expected, due to only having half as many punters as Justin! :eek: Fortunately, the venue knew this, and opened it up to the normal crowd, which helped no end.Quote:

What a day I had yesterday folks!!!!
On my way to a school party and my car broke down, on the phone to the AA who arrived and told me that the head gasket has gone, and did they want me to get a tow back home.
So, I got them to tow me to the school to honour the booking after which it was back onto the phone to get a tow home.

Very good gig last night, apart from the heavy security, which was a bit of a pain.
It was a wedding at Minley Manor, a large chateaux style mansion house near junction 4A of the M3. It is currently used as the Royal Engineer Officers mess.
I've worked at MOD venues before, but never known security like this.
I arrived late morning to set up. I had to produce photo ID, have my photo taken for my pass, have another pass made for my van, answer a number of questions & have my van searched...both in the back & under the bonnet!
About 20 minutes later, I was eventually cleared to go & set up my gear.
On the night itself, there was a pretty crammed dance floor from the first dance onwards. They were really nice people & totally up for it.
At the end of the night, both the bride and groom thanked me very much, mentioned how pleased they were that so many people were dancing and said they'd be more than happy to act as referees in future.
Job done!

Had a really good one last night. Joint (husband and wife) 40th birthday at a nice hotel just outside Maidstone. Bit of a panic getting there as roadworks on the M2 delayed us but we rang the agent who let them know we were on our way. Arrived about 20 mins late but managed to get up and running on time. Had a large playlist of 80's and 70's tunes and instructions not to take requests. Couple were very nice people as were all their guests who ranged from toddlers to Grandad of 90. Played 80's background for first hour until 8 then started off their playlist until the buffet at 9 (which was delicious). After that they all danced and I had a pretty full floor for the rest of the night.
One pleasant bonus was that the agent and another dj turned up and were very complimentary about us and in particular the sound quality.

Another fantastic wedding reception on Saturday Night.
Venue was Jarvis Hotel in Willerby (just outside Hull) about 15 minutes drive :D
Turned up at 5:30pm for a 7pm start only to find the 'rear' gate was shut. I went in and spoke to a woman from the gym who said she'll get someone to come and open it.
After 15 minutes and still waiting, I went and enquired again only to find that they don't open it and I had to go round the front :confused: (my first time here you see)
It was a fair hike from the car to the room (didn't take my trolley either - doh!)
The guy who was looking after the wedding reception asked me what time I'll be set up for - I said around 6:45 - he said 'You'll have to be quicker than that as I'm letting them in at 6:30' :eek: - news to me!!!)
I was just finishing setting up as they started to come in around 6:50 and the best man came up, shook my hand and gave me the balance (which I counted in front of him :p )
Bride was really polite and said I MUST get something to eat & help myself to orange off the table) So I did :D
Before the meal there was a few kids running around (as normal) so I broke off the background musical and had a bit of fun doing hokey cokey, superman and played some high school musical :sick: The bride was really happy that I did this (more brownie points).
After the meal came the speeches - the father of the bride went on and on and on.... around 20 minutes (but quite funny in places) :eek: the rest took us up to 9:00 then it was time for the first dance...
...which was, Aretha Franklin - You're All I Need To Get By. They had a little routine which was great and then they beckoned the rest to join them - and it was packed full (I'm guessing at 30-35 on the floor). Why did I forget my camera :bang: :bang: :bang:
Pretty much stayed packed all night apart from my little 'rock-set' for the Groom - who was no-where to be seen. Still had around 10-15 people dancing. Started the cheesy dance stuff around 11:15 and finished with Tony Bennett - The Way You Look Tonight (at midnight) as requested - again a really busy floor at the end of the night.
The bride couldn't thank me enough and said she'd definately recommend me.
I've also started using the mic a lot more and getting involved with the guests - something which I did before but nowhere near as much. Seemed to go down well.
It would have made some great pics if I had remembered my camera :bang:
Note to self - leave camera & batteries in glove box at all times!
