Had my First two Xmas gigs this weekend, Friday 8-3am Saturday 8-2am so as you can imagine, feeling it a bit now. The gigs were about as opposite as you could get...Both at the same hotel venue
Good Gig - Friday
About 100 people, played backing music through the buffet (mood starters and gentler xmas songs...Sinatra, Crosby etc), kicked off at 10 and from 10 til 3 had a rammed dancefloor all night, a good age mix, Up for a party, some great requests (played everything from Lil Wayne to Manfred Mann) and they responded to it all, everyone was really friendly, got some excellent compliments and the time flew through til 3 when we wrapped up with Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade. (As a side note, played Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire and it went an absolute storm!?) Loved the night and came away buzzing
Bad Gig - Saturday
This one was for one of the smaller but admittedly good Laptop brands...
Turned up at 8 and got a "Briefing Session" from the event organiser (great job that...if its a crap night "Its the DJ's fault"...if its a good night "Thats my great organising") Backing music played as with the night before, then Music stopped so they could put on a Xmas Pantomime (using the stage we used the night before...we we're side on to the D.F which I don't like acoustically or aestetically) and it (The Pantomime) was littered with snide bitter digs at other companies who probably sold more Laptops than they did, still amusing, if not laugh out loud funny. Then the MD made a speech asking them not to drink...
Then at approx 10.30 we kicked in...and most of em went to bed, the hardcore that were left were the rudest bunch of spoilt people you could ever wish to meet (the type who, despite having 90% of the people in the room dancing to Earth Wind and Fire/Chic etc, comes and tells me this is ":Censored: " and could I play something new...I suggested about 5 new tracks, all of which were ":Censored: " and she wandered off) Managed to plod through til 2, keeping the 20 or so people in the room on the floor and thankfully got some pleasant comments at the end, even from the ":Censored: " lady.
So, two gigs, completely different, buzzing from the first, thankful the second is over and done with.
As for the boring, bad attitude rude people at the second party and who they work for...well, I'll just say that, there is nothing ACEr about their Xmas parties.
