This was our first Primary school party of 2009 and I was looking forward to it big time.
It is one of our regualar clients but the good thing about this school is the sheer number of pupils who attened the events that we do there.
So, in and set up the equipment and I used the new booth for the first time and it looked excellent!! Other lighting was our standard school set up of 2 x moonflower effects.

Part One (5:15pm - 6:15pm) was full on chaos!! with our party dances and silliness we even showed the children one of our brand new party dances and they were really excited at being the first audience ever to see it and do it,
The hour came and went very quick and it was time to say good bye to them, many were very disappointed about having to leave but we had to empty the hall because the older children were waiting to come in.
After a 15min break to gather my senses and replenish my coffee cup it was time to get the older classes fired up.
I tried a very different approach with KS2 (Key stage 2) in that I went straight for the jugular!! And hit them with a few dance chart tunes which they loved.
Followed very quick with tracks from HSM (High School Musical) - Mamma Mia - Hairspray and it was an amazing sight to see everyone dancing their socks off!!!
Again the clock seemed to be on fast forward because it was time for the final three songs these being - oops Upside Your head/Amarillo/ 500 miles which was deafening!!! even had the wonderful PTA ladies and the mum helpers got in on the act (Well done ladies!!)
Night over and what a party!!! I would say that it was one of the best nights at the school.
Both sessions were absolutely fantastic and it was a pleasure to return.

okay, in at 8am this morning for load in.. had to trolley everything 500 yards through two separate buildings to get my equipment in to the venue.
thankfully i was travelling light, BOSE L1 system and Deckstand booth plus playout system, lighting for fashion show was being provided by Black Light.
got in got set up and sound checked. got stall, (unfortunately located on opposite side of the room from me) setup, with business cards, posters and brochures.
All ready to go for opening at 11am, background music on - chose Vitamin String Quartet and Paul Anka - rock swings on relay play, so i could converse with customers.
11am came and a trickle of people arrived,
then for the first hour it was quite steady then the first fashion show started at 12:30.. ramped up the volume to create excitement and focus peoples attention on the catwalk and got complaints from other exhibitors even though it wasn't excessively loud.

Then fashion show was over and people disappeared in their masses, and it was pretty quiet until about 4pm when everything finished up..
started tear down and left playout and BOSE l1s up till last so i could pack away to some Weird Al Yankovic :)
i got rid of a few business cards, but i had no one come over and talk to me, or enquire about my availability.
Don't think i'll be doing a wedding fair there again, there seemed to be not enough genuine interest, seemed to be a lot of people just coming in off the street.
If i do it again i won't be DJing that's for sure, not worth the hassle.

Did people actually know you were a DJ? There's nothing that says that's what you are there for or what you are supplying. You could have just been supplying the PA. That's what it looks like to me and I'm in the business!
yes, people did know, I had a separate stall I never took a photo of, unfortunately thanks to the events coordinators excellent planning, it was a little too far away from my equipment to be much use.Quote:

to be honest Darren, even if i don't get any work out of it i have learned something about the presentation of my show, and what i need to do in future for wedding fairs.
My contract says £40 per hour or part of but it was such an enjoyable night and I felt generous; so when the host offered me £20 I was quite happy with that.Quote:

Got there for 6:30pm for an 8:00pm start. Good job as the house was about 40 metres from the road :(
Got set up in the front room, plenty of room as they had moved all the furniture to the back of the room. I spent the first hour setting up and then another half hour trying to figure out why one of my amp channels wasn't working (had left the spare that Peter leant me at home).
Didn't get it working despite many lead changes so had to run on one channel all night - hard work as every song had to be checked in the headphones to make sure the mix was central. For example, Stealers Wheel 'Stuck in the middle' was out as it's a left/right split with the vocals on one side only, AC/DC 'You shook me all night long' was out as the guitars are split to name but a few.
Anyway, there were 8 people in all including the 40 year old birthday girl and her (seemingly) 60 year old husband :eek: Her 3 daughters I can only describe as blindingly ugly (20 stone and crop top with stretch marks - not a pretty sight) and a few other weirdo's.
The only dancing was to Gimme Some, Cha Cha Slide, Time Warp and a few oldie rock 'n' roll numbers for the old guy who's dancing looked like a Gorilla with it's feet nailed to the floor. :eek:
At 9pm the male stripper arrived (poor fella) who got torrents of "get 'em off" as soon as he walked through the door.
I finished at midnight as was originally quoted and when asked how much for an extra hour I said £40 (which I thought was extremely cheap) to which the reply was "oh, ok, we'll just leave it at midnight". I was wondering how much they expected me to say :eek:
At the end as I was just putting the last few bits into my car, the guy came out, shook my hand and said it was a fantastic show :eek: and worth every penny of the £160. I think they've seen a few £60 Sid's and were astonished at my set up.
Sorry for the over use of the :eek: but it really was that :eek:
As for my amp/sound issue, I think my amp has a dodgy speakon-out connection, not quite sure what to do with it as yet but should still be under warranty, but may be cheaper and easier to take it somewhere local to have it looked at.

Looks like there's a fault finding session imminent. ;) :D Since your amp's newer than mine, it shouldn't be the standard fault. Do check you haven't knocked the little switch at the back to Bridge, I've had probl;ems with that before. I'd lay odds your problem's there.
No, that's the first thing I looked at as I've done it before. I checked it all out on Sunday and the speakon connection seemed a bit dodgy, i.e. when I hold it in a certain direction the sound came on, when I let go the sound went off. I tried different leads and even put a replacement connector on the cable. It was still the same. :bang: :(Quote:
