Tonight I had a 60th Birthday party in a Squash/Sports Centre about 10 minutes drive from me.
I arrived at the venue at 5:45pm ready for a 7:30pm start. I was set up and ready for 7:00pm so this gave me time to tidy the rig over and also get a drink and relax before the guests were due to arrive.
I used 2 Imove 5s set static lighting the ceiling in the venue up pink for the start of the evening. I also used 1 Martin EFX500 on a tripod behind me which was more than adequate for the room.
The birthday girl arrived at 8:00pm as it was a suprise party. I played plenty of 60's music for background music and then around 9:30 I kicked off into the disco starting off with Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl which had the floor full within about 20 seconds.
Through the course of the night I played lots of Tamla Motown and also some more 60's taking me into a 11pm finish.
Lots of thanks by most of the guests and I got asked for a few business cards too.
So all in all a good gig for me, nice crowd, nice venue & a early finish.

Well, I arrived nice and early (as per usual) and they were running a bit late (again, as per usual). I sat in the bar and had a (soft) drink while they finished and eventually got loaded in and set up.
I was originally booked to play all evening but was told by the best man that a few of them had 'chipped in' and arranged for a group. I was ok with this, and even more-so when they arrived...
It was Irresistible from the first 'Britain's got talent' show. If you watched it, they were the ones who covered Christina Aguilera's Candyman. If you didn't see them, here's their link.
To cut a long story short, they were fantastic singers and the crowd did dance pretty much all night, to me and the girls.
So, here's looking forward to my next civil ceremony :D :D

Bad gig tonight.
After being in this game for over 25 years, I've just got back from a pub gig where I had my smallest audience ever.
The maximum was about 10 punters, but for the last hour there were only 2 people there (plus 2 staff).
They both asked for quite a few requests, all of which I played, and at the end of the evening they both came up & said how much they'd enjoyed the music & asked me for cards!
Funnily enough, the time went really quickly, which surprised me in those circumstances.
:shrug:
Tomorrow should be better, as it's a charity gig (a 60's 70's & 80's disco), and when I spoke to the guy early in the week he said they'd sold just over 100 tickets.
