Good Gig, Bad Gig.

Brilliant gig last night..... I finally got to do the naturists one !! :D
The only complaint came while setting up, when a chap comes up, points to a pair of my par cans and says "those lights are very bright in my eyes !".
"OK" says I, "where are you sitting ?.. and I'll angle them away from you :) "
"Yeah but then they'll be in my eyes when I stand over there !!" :confused: :bang:

The event was fancy dress on the theme of nursery rhymes and they had all made a real effort. I was dressed as the Grand Old Duke of York.
In the course of the night, played everything from Abba through Ballroom to ZZ Top and they were up for it, packed dancefloor all night, except for the 10 minutes during which I played current stuff (as requested !!) :D

After the first hour I noticed that one of the blind mice was topless, and as the evening progressed, more and more shed costumes until at least 30 were totally as god intended, with others in various stages of attire ;).

It was actually anything but embarrasing as they were obviously very confident in their preference and clearly avoided anything overtly compromising.
I took the professional view that it was about the number of bodies on the floor, and not their appearance. :cool:

I received so many thanks, I lost count, and fully expect to be recalled next year, when details have been finalised.

Second time today, words fail me. :eek: :o :o Glad you enjoyed it. Did you not feel the urge to divest yourself of shoes and other acoutrements, and do the gig " Au Naturel" ? :confused:

The invitation was issued several times,and it would have felt very comfortable to have done so, but I excused myself on the grounds of a possible 'miscue' or knocking over a stand ;)

Have just received the phone call saying "everyone loved me".."we had a brilliant night"..."what a difference a proper DJ makes" (:o ) and confirming booking for the same event November 2010 :D
Regret that volunteer (or even those willing to pay ! ;) ) 'roadies' will not be required :ner:

just home from my first wedding, what a night 7.30 to 1.00 long night but fantastic night, floor filled most of the night, i had a little boy who kept coming up to me and telling me the table at the opposite end of the room say it to loud yet i never had one complaint from the people nearest the PA. done runrig - loch lomand (thanks shaun) went down a storm, folk poped in from bar next door to see what was going on. i could here the cries of "youll take the high road and ill take the low road" when i was packing my gear into the van. had a wee snigger to myself thinking bet the neighbours love me tonight. a :D :D :D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D :D

What a weekend.

It has all turned out okay in the end, but could have been a complete disaster.

We did a 30th last night at Pleasington Golf Club which was vocal DJ job. Kev got through the swing set for peoples arrival no problem. However, when he came to do the party set his voice broke down three songs in. He appears to have picked up this nasty cough that is going around. I carry a spare everything, but what do you do when your vocal artist breaks down? Anyway they were okay with it and were happy with disco to the end.

The problem comes tonight. Big masonic do which requires singing too. Too late to get cover so Kev has been on every herbal remedy known to man today. Swing set during meal and he is struggling after four tracks. We have to drop a load of the real big tracks like Mack the Knife and Bojangles, however he is still getting applause. I have a chat with the principal and they are okay and say just do what you can. He finishes his set and I explain its cut short due to his throat infection and play his big tracks as above from CD (him singing recorded as demo's). He mimes along in a comedy fashion and everyone loves it and gives an almost standing ovation. Disco went a storm and had full dance floor all night. We offered a discount as we had not fulfilled the night vocal set. They told us not to be silly and gave us and extra £100 on top as a tip.

Really pleased both clients are happy but could have been a real nightmare.

Hmmm. Another night at my local social club 'Rock Night' by request.
I won't be bothering again I think. There are a lot of differences on what people determine as 'Rock' and not many dancers ...

Put this one down to experience.

That said, on hearing I am playing on NYE, there are some happy faces. I do (hopefully) a good job in there, and I get a lot of regular bookings. it turns out that 'Rock Night' wasn't one of the memorable ones unfortunately......

Absolutely amazing night.

A Disney-themed fancy dress 21st birthday party, in a privately-hired soft playbarn with a curry buffet, laserquest, disco and karaoke. Lots girls from a drama school, mostly clad in High School Musical gym gear (phew! :o ) with our full-on sound system, virtually every lighting effect I possess, LOTS of smoke and a full-on manic 4 hour session.

I am totally exhausted but it was my favourite gig of the year. Couldn't put a foot wrong musically, every song met with a cheer and a race to the dancefloor. The laserquest thing worked a dream, with groups of 10 playing at any one time, lasers galore. Lots of booze, some fantastically unbelievable karaoke performances. One older lady sang an Anastacia song and it was almost as if the artist was in the room - totally blew the place away. Two lads did Eminem/Dido's 'Stan' very impressively with perfect rapping and the whole crowd of about 60 sitting on the floor singing along and swaying around.

The whole event was planned to perfection and we realised a young lady's dream tonight. That's why I love this job :beer1:
