I've thankfully been very lucky over the Xmas/NYE period - all of my requestors have been polite and patient, and when I have made people wait, they have either screamed their thanks at me from the dance floor or made a point of coming over and thanking me afterwards! :D Oh yeah, and luckily they've also always had good taste!!Quote:

It was actually quite good fun. Lots of parental assistance with the silly dances, a couple of old-fashioned games - statues and pass the parcel. Mum had requested that we just play "normal" tunes, no pandering to the CBBC brigade, so I just plumped for pop songs from the last couple of years with catchy and memorable riffs, choruses etc. and went for it.

Well tonight was different for me.
It was booked as a Christmas party in a local pub . its a devil to hump the gear in , and a low ceiling:Censored: .
however I was booked form 9:30 till midnight . I arrived at 8:30 to set up , the car park was packed with Mercs,porche`s, BMW and a Bentley :eek: , not the usual pub gig then.
It was for Aspinal of London , the one that will sell you a handbag for £500 .
Thing was , they were in the mood to party , big time.
full floor ( well in a pub) from start to finish . gave out loads of cards , a very good night .

Had an interesting one last Saturday, an 18th in Knutsford in my usual tacky social club. A friend of mine came down with a big camera to shoot a promotional video for my website, and he couldn't have picked a better gig to have filmed :). Had the full lighting rig out, the dance floor was packed all night with 18 year olds actually having a great time!
Until...
I was booked to play until 12:30am, so I'm playing my penultimate song at about 12:25 (Time of My Life from Dirty Dancing) and getting ready to play my last song (Angels) when a massive scrap breaks out on the dancefloor, 2 chavs basically just start going at it. Cue the venue manager cutting my power, calling the police and shutting the party down. It turned out that one of said chavs had been after one of the girls, and when she refused he kicked her in the ribs.
The rest of the night consisted of packing up my gear navigating between police, paramedics and drunk chavs, and driving home thinking about how much of a shame it is that a couple of people have to ruin what was a fantastic night.
Sorry to hear about the way your gig ended.
It reminded me why I don't do 18ths.
I did my first wedding of the year tonight, and it went really well.
It was at one of about ten new venues I'm booked at this year, so I'll add the details to the venue database in the next couple of days.
The venue was the Wharf Restaurant in Manor Road, Teddington. It is right on the river & a few hundred yards from the TV studios.
The only downside was having to arrive at 3pm to set up, and as with all daytime set ups I didn't come home afterwards, as I don't like leaving the gear, so I stayed at the venue.
On the plus side, it was an 11.25 finish, so I was home at 12.20.
With only 3 or 4 exceptions, I thought their request list was really good, so I decided to post it here. I got through all their requests with the exception of about half a dozen, although they were not played in the order shown.
