I'd say 7 out of 10 want to finish on Loch Lomond though it can fluctuate, at one point I went a good couple of months without playing it.

This couple actually had Loch Lomond and 500 Miles on the do not play list.

They did ask to finish with Mr Brightside right enough

You know what, everyone had an absolutely fantastic time, it's just interesting that there's a definite shift in crowd tastes across the border.

Seeing what some people play in the north of England, compared to what I play in the south, there's definitely a north/south taste difference too.

I've even seen some variations between counties

Tbf there's certain differences between Glasgow and Edinburgh crowds not taking into account the differences in football songs linked to either city and we're only 40 minutes away on the motorway.

    Keeps it interesting I suppose.

Well of course. You heathens don't understand Gimme Some, or Penny Arcade.

Up here clubland dross is pretty much universal. Barely a gig goes by I get to avoid playing Children Of The Night & scooter etc.

Last night's prom a case in point. Who'd have thought that a room full of 16 year olds would be so into Kisstory stuff, cheese & early 00s tracks? Requests for new stuff were few & literally nobody even danced to those not even the requesters.

Reading between the lines SOME newer tracks rinsed the room, namely Losing It, Pump it up, BBCC Skank All Night but nobody asked for those specifically.

The biggest tracks of the night though were generally older than 2006.

Highlight of the night for me, possibly when a teacher glared at me for 98 kids screaming the real lyrics to Starships by Nikki Minaj at the top of their lungs, while I'm playing the radio edit

Another one tonight, then another one tomorrow night too. Wahey.

Then might I suggest you don't play that one about living next door to Alice?

The last 18th birthday party I did, booked under the impression it was for an older lady, the Smokie song came up as a request. Of course I played it & it went down a storm. The birthday girl's name? ALICE

I've had the occasional wedding where Candy by Cameo comes up. People from the South love it. Us northerners just look on, totally confused. I just can't see the appeal of it.

At one gig where action dance songs were banned I unwittingly let Daniel Boone Beautiful Sunday through. I didn't know about the slosh . To be brutally honest I'd never even heard of it til then. Awful, awful song & I later learned it's popular with IRA sympathisers. Lovely eh.

Most the above tracks during official dancing time were greeted with deafening screams. Which was er... nice affirmation. Quick mixing - because attention spans are pretty short these days but hey. Just adds to the energy innit!
