Never had a problem with my old prosound lights. Prosound lighting is actually made by american Dj hence why the same lights can be seen on their website. Other than a bad batch of ssc-2's I had once I have never really had a problem with maplin stuff.
I have had acme and prosound lighting and to be honest the ssc-2 blows an acme dynamo away. it is 16bit rather than an acme 8 bit. It had seperate colour wheel and gobo wheel. It has onboard dmx control over the acme and its optics are much better.
I own 4 dynamo's and 2 ssc2's and the ssc's are much better. And cost less.
Not to say acme isnt good stuff. But a generalisation like all maplins stuff is rubbish is itself rubbish.
If all they sold was that bad they would not still be trading.

But they do a lot more stuff than disco gear, so all the disco gear could be rubbish and they'd still be trading 'cos they are not specialist in that area and have lots of other products.

I'd like to see proof that American DJ make Maplins lights. Do you not think they are all made in a factory in China and then badged?

My point was that Maplin dont sell junk coz it is too much hassle taking it back and sending for repair. I have sold to Maplin my own software so know first hand how hard they are to deal with in regards to quality and reliability.

    Of course they do.

I didn't say it was all junk, but they are not a specialised disco shop. Would you buy gear from Argos or Woolworths?

Sorry, but that is not made for the job and is neither pro and is the kind of thing that I and others strive to get away from.

Do you suppose that Gordon Ramsay gets his knives in Asda?

I quite often have a look at gear on ebay to see what there is.
Then find videos of the item on specialist websites.
Then find the cheapest online supplier and buy it.

All their disco gear isn't rubbish. They also sell Numark and now KAM gear.

Quite possibly. Which by your previous statement would mean that American DJ lights are rubbish, a point which at the moment I'm prepared to dispute.

There is an increasing amount of badge engineering happening nowadays.
Excalibur. Older than the average DJ.

Quite a lot of this is just snobbery proclaiming you have the most expensive equipment.

I was an electronics design consultant for 14 years and used Maplin for electronic parts.
