Sureley they are set for a reason!!!!
Indeed they are young man. However, you missed the fact that we set it at a volume I fancied, as it was the first time they had used it. If I'd wound it all up to the red lights and said "There's your level mate" that's what we'd have set it at.
Here's the bit I missed out, but I thought I'd said plenty.
The steward said that the noise problems weren't dire, the neighbours were well away, but perhaps a little sensitive. Since the Centre went onto a Public Licence they were open to objections to that licence, and said neighbours had seized the opportunity to get their objections in, perhaps to set a marker to ensure that things got no worse than they are now. It appeared that the noise levels in this area weren't oppressive or intrusive, just noticeable, a sort of distant hum if you like. ( In one of my local venues where I do a lot of 18th's at volumes I find very high for the room size, neighbours know when I'm working there, cos they hear a low hum which doesn't bother them. Another DJ comes in there, and none of the neighbours can get to sleep! Took me three weeks to tell 'em all it wasn't me. )
The centre in question is a tin sports centre, which is an effective megaphone due to some cooling ducts, and the proposed sound deadening measure is to fully insulate the roof void/ducting, which should remove the problem, apart from folk opening the doors all night long in warm periods. Thus you see the limiter is only an interim measure, in fact they would rather have hired one, but couldn't. This one will be on Ebay in a few weeks if anyone wants one.
If a noise limiter is a condition of a venue having a licence, I've never advocated bypassing it, and never will do. That's irresponsible. I bet on Friday night, the locals didn't know there was a Disco going on.
BTW, Darren, sorry if I'm using the long words again, would txtspk help you?
