    i use a laptop and controller with Serato.

    I download my track from itunes straight to my laptop hard drive and play the playlists in Serato.

    Thats it. its not backed up with an external hard drive as my itunes purchases are.

    I dont need a produb licence do I?

    Do you have a Time Machine? If so, that's a backup. Unless your iTunes library is omitted from the list.
