I know - and I guessed that was why you went to have a look.

I never quoted prices, but used to have a few 'examples', but now that people can get a proper quote within a matter of a minute, I didn't see that there was any point.

Perhaps I’m opening a can of worms but here goes...

Yes, I read this thread on the bus Angela and couldn’t stop laughing and smiling. People on the bus must have thought I was mad!

Hi MDD, I’m Lisa and have been for a good 12 months! I knew somebody would catch me out eventually. Lisa has spoke to companies (not just discos) all over the UK which gave me the idea for my Posh Party site.

Lisa hasn’t been out for ages but she wanted to try your new automated booking system (which I thought was very good). It had nothing to do with how much you charge! (Obviously that still isn’t a good excuse)
I apologise to all the members who had to deal with Lisa. The intention wasn’t to steal ideas or prices etc but to observe how you dealt with people. How quick did you reply? Did you catch up with Lisa when she didn’t reply?

It was Bands and other entertainers etc who were really interesting. One comedian even inserted a few jokes into his quote.

I was very surprised at the amount of people that didn’t even bother replying.

I keep getting myself into trouble but you gotta see the funny side?* It had to be me.

*Although, I do apologise to those whose time I have wasted.

I’m sorry for annoying you (again) Angela & well spotted.

Look out for William Jenkinson folks.

Charlie...at least on the forum...why not just ask people their procedures. Most would be more than happy to have talked you through it and shown templates etc...

Fair play to you Charlie for admitting it was you!

To answer your questions as to how long it would have taken me to reply, the reply would have been sent about the time this thread was started

If you would like to see a copy of the reply, I'll gladly send you a copy!

There is a couple of people i know local to me who do this. do not see the point really?
The price is what you think your worth - in my opinion unless your checking email back time rates.

I would find it pretty irritating if my prices were not on the site.

I have had people call me and ask and be honest and we have spent hours on the phone sharing ideas.
    Thats surely much more useful?

I have just come back from a meeting with someone who is kind of mimicking me and
we had a great time talking about speakers and what not.

Am I losing my touch? Am I the only one who didn't see this coming? Looking back it just screams "Charlie"!

I think Mr Brown may have got this particular practise from me. I regularly email people to see how quickly they answer, what kind of service they provide and the sort of prices they go out for.

It's called market research and is very useful for finding out about people, especially when people have a lot to say on here...

Personally I cannot stand it when DJs use such methods....and I know many of you do. I just wish they would pick up the phone and have a good chat with me about things and we can exchange ideas and talk shop, it could be a beneficial networking exercise for all parties if they weren't so deceitful. I know many won't agree (mainly those that prefer the underhanded...sorry I meant market research method ) but I think it's completely dishonest, shady and a waste of my time if they contact me pretending to be someone they're not. Each to their own I suppose.

I used to pass on a fair bit of work to a local DJ, till he called me up trying to disguise his voice. I played along gave him my price. I've never given him work since. The fool also called from his own number so it came up his business name on my caller I.D.

Doing this kind of 'market research' on me is a good way to lose potential work and friendship from me if I ever found out.

I don't always spot the 'spoofs', obviously, but when I do, it depends on what mood I'm in as to what I'll do with them.

If I'm not too busy I'll just carry on regardless and deal as a normal enquiry. When I'm busy, I have been known to just completely ignore them.

Today I'm tired and unfocused, and could do without the 'extras' the day after coming back from BPM.... plus it leapt off the page at me as a spoof.

It's not a practice that I subscribe to, but accept that it's a fact of life.
