Default When 13" Just Isn't Big Enough

I use a macbook and the 'real estate' on the screen is very restricting - I've coped but a bigger screen would make life easier.

Anyone on here use a smaller laptop and now use it with an external screen?

Just wondered if it was worth the extra effort.

That is interesting. I use two 15.4" Toshiba Laptops. But was just thinking of getting two Sony SB and they have 13.3" screens. The resolution is 1366 x 768. Virtual DJ is 1024x768 so should be perfect. What resolution is your laptop?

The LED backlit Macbooks have a much higher resolution for example I have a 17" macbook pro with LED backlit display and it runs at 1900x1200. I also have a 17" acer and it only goes to 1440 x 900

I'd love to buy a 17" MacBook pro but can't justify the expense - so thought a larger monitor would be workable...but it seems nobody has said they are doing this..so maybe it isn't very practicable.

    a 13" macbook pro has a resolution of 1280x800.

I use Traktor Pro on mine and although screen real estate can be a problem you can be a bit creative and eliminate the need for an external monitor which would add setup time and cost.

For instance if you have Advanced Decks (cue points etc), plus effects, plus sample decks, this leave very little space for searching tracks.

However I have mapped buttons so that when I go into search mode (by Pressing TAB), the decks minimise to their smallest state. I can switch back by pressing P

    ie.

You didn't need to map it mate - you can just press the space bar to do exactly what you've described
