I suppose it had to happen...
A Groupon deal for a wedding package.
Wedding Reception With High Tea For 50 Guests Plus Evening Hog Roast and Disco For 100 Guests for £2995 at Maunsel House

I've seen tons of these!
One hotel in Nottingham was offering the whole works for 75 guests in the day & 125 in the evening for £750.
-
Its not a bad price assuming the venue is any good.
My venue charges £3000 with me at £450 and also flowers and all the main stuff like chair covers (basically all the crap bits).

8pm start for Disco seems rather late for a wedding IMO, I also see its for Monday to Thursday only so seems a fair price, Wonder how much the DJ gets from the package?

Raaaag annna Bone!
I know the venue well, the owner also has a second one in Taunton, I wonder if that will be up there next.

I thought this was becoming the norm. We have many venues, including high end venues, now offering this.
I have heard of one high end venue using an iPod and lights which the bar staff operate when the resident was already booked.

With the Groupon deals it's also worth knowing they usually want about half of the fee. So the venue may only be taking £1.5K.

As a DJ specialising in weddings, then I don't think 8pm is a late start. To be honest, most shows only really get going around half 9 to 10 when all the meet and greet, and often the buffet, activity has taken place. Prior to this, it's usually just background.

At the risk of going in to politics, the country's ecomony is goosed and people appreciate saving money so I can't help but think this is the way forward. I know this leaves a bad taste in many people's mouths but. perhaps, we should start to consider "special offers" ourselves to capitalise on this "scrimping" (well, you know what I mean!) mentality.

When I read this, I thought "No way!". But, I've checked this statement out and it does seem that Groupon demands 50% of the offer price! This, at first, sounds very greedy but, apparently, they've got businesses lining up to work with them so they are in a position where they can pretty much charge what they want! Wow!
EDIT:
Best correct this statement (for legal reasons if nothing else!). I've done a bit of research and, in the first quarter of 2012, Groupon's "take rate" (commision to me and you) was 41%. But it has been rising quarter on quarter for a while so it could well hit 50% in the next few years. Just thought I'd best point that out!
