    Default Car Insurance

I have been driving my big estate around for some years it's OK and I can fit my gear in it but I have been hankering after a sports car for some time now a bit of fun to drive to work etc.. anyway last week I bought one nothing too expensive but now to my dismay I find I cannot get my no claims discount on the insurance I have to start at 0 again for this car ! is there a cheaper way of insuring a second car ?

Go to a specialist & find a limited mileage policy?

The other thing that I meant to mention if anyone else has 2 cars and they have not told their insurance company's so they are in effect claiming NCD on both cars the car which was insured second will not have a valid insurance.

No idea if it helps, but there are quite a few firms advertising multi car policies. Wonder if they may be cheaper? Also, worth having a look at one of these online comparison sites, saved us a penny or two.

Peter the point I'm trying to make is if you have say two cars or a car and a van you can not use your NCB on the second vehicle you insure, you have to start at 0% NCD for the second vehicle you insure if you use NCD on both you will not be insured on one of them , multi car policies are misleading although so is NCD because if you have 80% NCD it does not not mean you are going to get 80% discount off your insurance for from it more like 20%

I use Admiral for mine and the Mrs. Great price and they include business use for the DJing on my car for free.

The short answer no - you can only use 1 ncb on one car. Even a multi car policy just gives a discount on the second car.

If I was faced with a similar problem, my first port of call would be an insurance broker, explain your problem and see what they come up with, they will know the best companies to approach. Failing that take Peters advice and check out the companies offering multi car policies. Whatever you do, don't 'forget' to tell them of the second vehicle, it could prove disastrous if you are involved in a costly accident and they start checking your application in detail, for a excuse to not pay out.

I've always wondered how the use of one NCD per vehicle works.

    Are they linked or not?

On one hand they are not, i.e. you can have a car with full NCD, and one with 0 years.

What happens if you have an accident with your car with 0 NCD, is only that one affected, or would you loose your NCD on both cars?

A member of my team used to be in car insurance - surprisingly the discount for NCB is not always the biggest discount you can get. Area is still king
