    Possibly because it's shorter than typing "This forum is designed to be a friendly & inoffensive place that any member of the family can enjoy, therefore we request that members keep this in mind & the content that they post is appropriate to this" every time we need to remind somebody.

    ....and yes, we have had several members of the same family of different generations as members.
