Confused about Facebook stats

OK - I'm fairly tech-savvy, or I should be being a programmer for a living.

But, there's something I really don't understand at the moment.

Obviously I've been busy this past week with 5 gigs in 5 days, and there's been various posts on the Book of Faces each time plus an end of gig report as I always do. Normally, my post reach averages between 100-150 people, sometimes a few more but never anything spectacular (one of next year's todo list items is to to use social media a bit more to my advantage).

However, I put a post up in the early hours of Saturday morning (a gig report) with an iPhoto (is that what it's called? ) montage of half a dozen pics. My post reach for this one post (and it's only this one post) is now nearly 8,000! Subsequent posts are back down to the normal averages.

So, any social media experts on here got any idea why this has happened on just this one post?

I've done these ones before and it's made no difference whatsoever. I'm assuming the 8k reach means it's potentially appeared in 8,000 people's news feeds (I've only got 122 followers).

Just the 8000 figure would do the job. Just want to see where that's being reported and hopefully be able to give an answer.

OK. I misread the stats slightly - the 8k is my total reach for the week. The post concerned is actually 7.2k (but what's 800 between friends? )

Well...to my understanding, your post has appeared in 7.2k people's news feeds, searches etc. How many of those people actually 'saw' the post is another matter (especially in searches). The fact that the venue name is in the post could have possibly helped with the rise in reach, but that is a massive anomaly. I've even hit Google to ensure that my understanding is correct and what I've read seems to correlate.

Long/short of it is that you need to post at five to two on a Saturday morning for the best reach.

No - shattered, drained, emotionally and physically knackered and not seeing things correctly (a couple of beers have helped this too)

That said, I normally post around then and it's never had this effect. Maybe I need to start tagging the venue more often

Reached does include things like if I saw my friend liked your post from my understanding but still that's a lot it seems!

I only got 650 from a post to which had 5 shares! And it was a bloody good post if I am allowed to blown own trumpet.

On no account even consider this! We can't have DJs wandering about spraying " DJ Fantastic" and the like all over buildings.



* I've got no idea at all about Facebook, but I do know one interpretation of " tagging ".

You're doing something right if you average 125 views per post with only barely that many followers!
