I can draw a significant lump sum from my pension in Dec 21.

I thought I would carry on DJing for the love of it. Now I am beginning to think I may have done my last gig! 😫

Trust me, there's only ONE very safe job at the moment....and I'm in it! Retail or E-commerce (sadly....especially online and delivery) are pretty much the only growth industries whilst COVID is a thing and Mr & Mrs Average are hiding away from catching it. Amazon and supermarkets are pretty much jobs for life at the moment....and it's biimmin' hard work!
I teach a fairly specialist type of ASN pupil. I'd be willing to bet they'd even cut Maths and English jobs before mine and they're not going to do that either.

Got to say, being a full-time DJ was something I loved doing, even managed to build my business up so if I didn't want to I didn't actually have to work.

The time off I got was unbelievable and something I really miss now. I have had good jobs in the past but nothing compared to working for myself full time. No regrets at all, just hope someday I can get back to it as this 5 day a week malarkey is no good at all - certainly could not work full time AND DJ again, not sure how I managed it before haha.

The good news is that councils have certain statutory services they have to provide. Some of those services have a shortage of staff at the moment, and it's amazing just how much people can command for certain roles, despite whatever 'austerity measures' may be in place.

I did that around 18 months ago but I had also factored in the DJ earnings to take me up to normal pension age when I would be mortgage free and debt (thanks to the ex missus) free and able to manage on a smaller income. Unfortunately of course, the DJ earnings went from '000s to 0 in the blink of an eyelid forcing a major re-evaluation of my (lack of) wealth.

It always helps when there's someone in a worse position...

So whilst having a load of DJ kit right now isn't ideal, imagine trying to sell 18 cruise ships right now.

Me thinks it's not the ideal time to be trying to sell!

You are 100% correct on that, I decided to enter a trial retirement earlier in March, I liked it and decided it was the way forward for me. I subsequently listed several items on ebay to 'test the water' NOT a single item sold, I relisted them with a 'Best Offer' option and only receive a few derisory offers that were rejected. Fortunately, I'm not desperate to sell (for a pittance) but that said, there doesn't appear to be a way forward, or information of the length of time it may take until the market returns to what could be considered relatively normal. Sitting at home doing nothing is totally alien to me, but I can't see a clear way forward at the moment. I'm very fortunate in the fact I have independant income, savings, investments and virtually zero outgoings, (no mortgage, rent, or loan repayments etc) Thankfully I'm financially secure, BUT the boredom and the isolation is driving me towards insanity.

Good luck with it, I'm actually rather enjoying working again. Only three days in though mind haha.

Must admit something is to be said for turning up to work, going home, then getting paid at the end of the week. If my £££ matched my self employed income I would be quite settled

Couldn't agree more actually (especially if like me you don't even have to THINK about work before you get there and after you clock off).

If I'm on a late shift, the hours are similar to an evening reception anyway (the earlies are another story entirely.....really don't like having to get up at 0430 ).
Plus with my position, I'm pretty much my own boss from the time I leave the loading bay to the time I return. Just a shame it doesn't pay about 4x more than it does otherwise I'd be set for life
