Throw away the shovel, son! You're Twenty feet down, and disappearing fast.
Regular readers will know that these are the two poles of the DJ world, ranging from what we may call "Specialist DJs" to the much maligned " Gig Pigs". I make no apologies for pointing out that like Young Wayne says previously, when your income depends on it, I'm prepared to take on ones that aren't high profile, high pay ones. The motto of the self employed is " don't work, don't eat" for good reason.
It's a debate we've had before, and Gavin is well enough capable of mounting a robust and well reasoned defence to my jibes. Well done that man, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It wouldn't suit me, as I trade more along the lines of " the answer's yes. What's the question"? Mayhap if I get a bit of free time, I may stop hijacking this thread, and start a thread/poll to see how opinion varies here, who knows?
Gavin has obviously identified his target market, and set his stall out for it. Sound strategy. More in the yet to be created thread.

Well there have been unofficial mentions today from ministers of normality from April. I don't personally believe that and am pretty much planning on hibernation for the winter, but several days ago I had a very experienced event organiser saying that a customer for a June 2021 booking had apparently had a wobble and considered dropping the event, but changed their mind and they're continuing to proceed with plans and the numbers have increased to 220. I'm not going to even consider site visits etc until nearer the time, no idea if it'll be able to proceed in the format they'd like.
For those of us still operating I can see the next few months being very quiet but there's clearly a lot of pent up demand and I think they'll be a lot of extra parties for the sake of having a party on top of catching up with the life marking events when we do get the go-ahead and I'm hoping to be able to cover as many as possible!

With the weather getting colder and the nights getting longer, I really am holding onto that glimmer of hope. Trust me, delivering shopping from 6am or until midnight depending on what shift I'm on is getting harder and harder.
I think April's probably a little optimistic but I'm willing to hold onto anything I can to get back to normality.
The problem is, will it be "proper" normal with unrestricted numbers etc., or is it going to be a case of "look here chaps, we've all had the shot in the arm now let's play it jolly careful for the next few months and see what happens", as in limits on gatherings, snap lockdowns if things DO flare up again, and a continuation of the uncertainty we have at the moment?

There's a certain amount of pent up demand, but not as much as I was expecting (yet). I must admit, since the mentions of April today my website traffic has increased a little, but I'm waiting to see if that's a sustained thing or whether it was a one off.
It may change once vaccines are being rolled out but talking to customers at the moment particularly on the subject of the easing of rules over Christmas, a lot of them are planning on locking themselves away rather than meeting up and risking catching it. And don't forget, the whispers on the jungle tom-toms are that we're likely to be in another lockdown for January to pay for the easing over Xmas, which is going to further dent confidence.
It's also going to take a while for the public to forget about social distancing etc (it's become second nature to a lot of people to cross the street instead of bumping into others).

I know whereof you speak. My cunning plan was to cut down the day job, and expand disco work for a couple of years. The day job is now the only income source, so that wasn't a huge success.
April a little optimistic? I'd be more looking to August. Let's hope you're right on this one.

As Chris Dye has said elsewhere, I think, I'd expect a 50 person limit for a long while to come.

Cobblers, my son. Attention span of a goldfish, and many of them never even got the memo in the first place.

And as there is no sign of when the under 50s will be vaccinated - it's not even mentioned on their timeline yet. I'm still going to be cautious. Sure, we'll bring the deaths down from the older population, but it'll still be rife within the general population for a long time - and long Covid is still a real threat.

At least after the announcement from Boris last night, it's now a very clear cut cancellation!

I think most of us on here will be qualifying for the vaccine when it comes along (myself included by then ). Looks like plenty of milestone birthdays next year instead of weddings then

Yup - and that's exactly what she was told when she queried any money coming back.
