I've just had an interesting conversation with the owner of the venue I'm doing my first wedding at......
I was a little concerned after reading the official guidance that outdoor dancing wasn't even mentioned (outdoor dance floors aren't mentioned either - only inside). He has a specific "outdoor" license for his marquee and has had his barristers on the case to check and apparently it's all systems go. Even the police have said they can't do anything to stop it as it's technically outside. He's had several weddings there with full on party (only the allowed 30 but outdoors) since the May 17th easing and hasn't had a single problem legally.
Looks like I've got at least one wedding to definitely do in July

Marquees are fine provided you can open the sides. All systems go for several of mine too.

Apparently I spoke to soon. I've been checking with venues, now I've checked with clients.
Two of my weddings have been cancelled and have failed to inform either me or the venue!!
Another has just decided they want to push the date back from the 17th to the 19th of July, despite the venue clearing me for both music and Photobooth. The discussion on that one is getting nasty because a) I'm not available for the 19th and b) hes arguing that I should refund because 'restrictions are preventing the wedding from going ahead'.
It's starting to look like I'm going to have a lot of gaps in my diary in July.

I've 2 couples pitching DJ v Venue. They are telling me the venue has said ABC is allowed, then going to the venue saying I have said ABC is allowed lol. Can't blame them to be honest but think we need to proceed with caution.

This venue has called to apologise to me to as they just assumed all the suppliers would be available. They're prepared to put in writing that I could have performed on the original date (they're putting a marquee up for the evening reception). Basically he doesn't have a leg to stand on.
I've heard from another DJ who is having the supplier vs DJ issue. This customer is trying to sneak in 100 guests and a dance floor this coming Saturday and is telling the DJ that the venue have said its fine. This DJ talked to the venue and apparently the venue are on the verge of cancelling his wedding for constantly disregarding the rules.

Snap! One public event ( which was always looking suspect, to be honest), a school prom, and a staff party a week later have all bitten the dust. Balanced slightly by covering a wedding for someone, on the 17th.

I've just had word that another July one's going ahead and they look forward to me being there.
This one could be interesting (awaiting more info from the bride and groom), because I'm supposed to be in a medieval barn type thing with a permanently fitted light up dance floor (it's a separate room from everything else that's happening on the day). Hmmm

Today I've sent out the emails to venues and clients asking their plan for weddings over the next few weeks.
Would rather ask and know now than wait til the last minute.
Will see what comes back

Did that pre-empting things before Monday's announcement which is why they're now coming back to me (only contacted the couples at this point though).
Waiting to see how this particular couple respond as to their plans before going direct to the venue and cross-checking. I'm hearing a lot of stories at the moment where couples are pitching suppliers vs venues so that they get exactly what they want regardless of what's allowed - and that's not a game I'm willing to take part in if it means falling foul of the already sketchy in places guidelines, blind-eyes from local authorities and nosey neighbours who've had 18 months without hearing a party and decide they don't want them to return.

Methinks you're going to be awfully lonely, except for the first dance.

If it's anything like my venue on Sunday, absolutely nothing.

It's a dangerous and irresponsible attitude to breach the rules current at the time. Well done for following them, it's the only sensible option.
