    Default All coming together....

Well, here's a picture of the new kit that has been purchased and now racked in the last week or so.

Denon DN-X500 replaced with Pioneer DJM3000.

USB sound card and GLI removed and replaced with Denon HC4500.

I was awaiting news that the HC4500 is now mapped in native mode for Virtual DJ and it works very well.

I've been testing it with just one of the new RCF cabs and I don't think I've ever had a system that is so quiet when nothing is playing. I've always had a slight mains buzz or hiss through the horns, but this is silent. Nothing.

I'm impressed with the sound so far, but then I've only had a play in the garage and front room!

As you can see the case is wasting a lot of space as there are no CD draws, only a 1U keyboard sliding shelf and the Pioneer mixer is quite heavy, so Steve is buiilding me a bespoke case, out of lighter material, so that everything fits and there's no wasted space.

I like it, although the Pioneer mixer spoils the view a bit!

No, the DJM3000 is a good mixer, I use it quite regularly on and in-house system at a club I play at - there's little to fault it on.

The one thing I don't like about it, is if you push it near the red, it distorts very badly, whereas the DN-X500 has that bit of extra headroom. This doesn't matter a jot if you have a PA system up to the job of course, but if you do have to stretch the mixer you'll notice it.

I don't know if you've already said, Darren, but why did you swap mixers?

Oh, I forgot, the DJM3000 does have the on-board effects too

(When are you going to release a rackmount mixer with effects, Denon?! )

How come you're using the HC4500 and HD2500, Darren? Is one for backup? In terms of mobile disco use, what does the HC4500 bring to the table? (I haven't really looked into it yet )

As for the wasted space, what about an extra rack shelf for 'in-gig storage'? I was going to say to put your queued CDs on, but that would be silly! I have one in my case for that, I keep my notepad and pen on it too!

Would you mind shutting up before Darren decides he doesn't want a bespoke case.

It was really a 'what you could have done, but I think the new case is the better idea' suggestion

It would have looked nicer using all Denon, agreed.

The one thing I have noticed in my testing is that the Pioneer mixer appears to be louder than the Denon. I don't think that I'll ever be pushing anything that hard though tbh. I had the RCF cab on half, the main output at around 75%, the pots on about 50% and the fader on about 25% and it was incredibly loud.

Are you sure it was the mixer causing the distortion and not the P.A.?

I'd had a few niggles with buzzes and a few other minor things, and wasn't completely happy with the sound so decided to go for a clean sweep.

I didn't mention in my first post (just completely forgot), the HC4500 replaces the DAC-2 which I use with Virtual DJ. Now that it's mapped, you can use it basically the same as the HD2500, cueing and playing obviously, but making loops, using the effects and you can see the text on the display unlike the DAC-2.

Well at the moment I use a deckstand (soon to change probably) and have plenty of room for other bits and pieces. The case really is quite heavy now and I want something lighter and to be exactly what I need, instead of always never being quite right. (If you know what I mean!)
