My 21st last night was different but good. Unfortunately about half of the invited 90 guests failed to arrive. It made it a bit dificult to get the party going especially as the majority there were blokes but we succeeded and a good time was had by all and I enjoyed playing some different tunes.

Did 2 40th birthdays this weekend. Friday's was for a girl who is deaf and half of the audience were as well. We had to leave the lights up; so they could see each other signing and I commented to Jan that during the buffet they were talking with their mouths full! Anyway after a slow start they really got into it (the birthday girl was a real party animal) and it turned out a brilliant night. Saturday's was at the same venue (which was a bonus as we could leave the gear in place). That was a pleasant evening but did not get wild. The birthday girl was into northern soul; so it was good to play some different stuff. "Tainted Love" by Gloria Jones totally filled the floor.
Its my stag night tonight; so off for a curry with family and friends.

I shall put in my rig and do some of the dj'ing and also lead some line dancing but a mate of mine will do some barn dance calling and there are other dj's there who I will call on for assistance with the first and last dances.

I had a couple of good nights over the weekend. A 16th birthday on Friday and an 18th on Saturday. I wouldn't normally accept these bookings (principally because I despise dance and R&B type stuff...feels like someone is raping my head via my ears. I can manage 20 mins normally, but then want to end myself.), but was covering for another DJ and didn't find out what they were until the last minute.. Anyway, I was well outside my comfort zone, and had a full floor for most of the time on both nights, so I'm pretty pleased with myself.

Also, on Saturday night, the younger ones cleared off around midnight (I was booked 'til 0100), so I got to play "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf for the first time in years!

Great night tonight. I had a engagement gig for a couple of gay women. When booking they said they had been knocked back by quite a few dj's as it was a gay engagement and were very dubious about having a party as none of their family or friends were gay. After explaining I had no problem etc etc they booked and what a great night.

Karaoke went on till 930 then disco through till 11. They actualy came up to me at the end and said if they knew it was going to go so well they would have organised something till midnight. Dance floor was packed - and i'm going to say it - loads asked for business cards including the venue owners

They have asked me to ring them in morning as they have a date for the civil ceremony and would like me to do the disco and photos.

Does anyone here have problems with gay parties, it has never crossed my mind.

One mistake which I got away with - I played 'Katy Perry - I kissed a girl' A track I nearly always play and never give it a thought.
