Good Gig, Bad Gig.

Here we go once again for another shindig at “Chez Longridge” home to one of our best and regular clients Geoffrey and Sheila of Bywaters and it was for Sheila’s 70th Birthday Party so it was a good chance to unleash “Retro Recall” this is a new option we offer for adult parties (50s/60s/70s/80s) songs that an audience can have a good ol’ boogie to.

There was one person attend ding who I was looking forward to seeing again at that was The birthday girl (Sheila) mum – Helen who I have met before and she came in wearing the medal I gave her at the last “Bywaters Bash” it was a pleasure to see such a fine lady again.

The party was amazing even though I was flying solo for this one but I did not worry one bit because the audience are regulars and it was like a party at my house with friends and boy were they up for a good time.

I honestly can not find the words to describe the atmosphere that was in that house and at the end and whilst packing up I run out of different ways to say thank you to guests who came up and shook my hand saying I had made their evening etc,

In recent weeks, ive been being a bit lazy and using the Mackies instead of humping around the HK's. Last night, even though it was a small venue i was going to, i decided to use the HK's with the, huge heavy sub.

Id been in the veune before, and knew i can use the system in the room, so didnt give it any thought.

On turning up the the venue, im told that the party is in an upstairs hall i didnt know was there. There is no lift and the stairs are very narrow. I didnt have time to return home for the mackies so me, pauline & a woman doing the buffet struggled up the narrow stairs with the sub.

After the gig, a kindly man helped me get it back down again, during which i managed to hurt my back. Its still sore today, and im about to leave for a 7 hour drive to south wales

Not looking forward to the drive now.

Both soundmaster djs were out doing weddings last night.It was dj alan nicols very first wedding on his own.Have to say it went really well and he got a £10 tip at the end.The only problem he had was the photographers messing yp the first dance,Alan introduced the b&g to the floor,started to play the first dance then the photographers said stop,we want everyone to form a circle round the dancefloor for the fiurst dance.What a pair of idiots,there was no prior arrangement with the b&g for this nor was it mentioned to the dj.What a horrible start for alans first wedding,but he managed to humour his way through it,and everyone had a good night.

My wedding on the other hand was pure pants.I was in a villiage hall,most of the people who were at the meal were all that was at it.around 70.I was due to start at 7 but did not start untill 7.30ish.first dance went well.then everyone went and sat down.I tried saying various things over the mic that normally work for me but to no avail last night.my music was way to loud for them,can you turn it down i was asked 3 times last night.I asked them to switch the hall lights of or dim them,but was told no we want to leave them on.I got some up to dance but they only danced for one song then sat down again,this was the pattern for the whole night unfortunatly.It was my first wedding of the year so hopefully the next one is better.

I had an awsome night last night.
The gig was in Faversham in a pub (which i dont normally do) it was an open to the public event for a 50th birthday which was booked as a karaoke/disco, I took 5 singers mic`s with me which all decided for some reason to go kaput bar one so I had to lend my new pg58 cordless to some singers, To cut a long story short this event was absolutely fantastic, Even when people were singing they were dancing. The floor was full from start to finish.

The landlord who`m I`m told hates entertainment and loud music was really gobsmacked how the night went and asked to book me for new years eve (shame i`m booked) so he wants me to come up and do a few gigs throughout the year, i`m still buzzing from it now.

John: Hey mate, look on the bright side. Most of the kit still works this morning, though one pair of speakers will have to be restricted to adult gigs for a while, cos they're about 40% proof this morning!!

I pity the venue staff. At 12.30am they were in a war zone. The front of the rig resembled a glass recycling plant, and the floor was a bio hazard!! All they had to do before 12 noon, was to prepare for the big posh Mothers Day they had booked in. Poor devils. All we had to do was get the kit in the motors and go home for a kip.

Had two school parties to do on the Friday night, same venue. First one was 5 - 7 year olds, the second was 8 - 11 year olds. The young ones took a bit of looking after but were no real problem and seemed to enjoy themselves. The older crowd were fantastic! Incredibly polite, very knowledgable and realistic with their requests. We went from Labrinth and Jessis J to Bon Jovi & Lynyrd Skynyrd. Even had requests for Free and Black Sabbath!!! They seemed to love having dance-offs boys v girls with every single one (120) taking part. At the end of the night at least 30 said thank you etc. Kinda restores your faith.

My gig tonight was diabolical.

It's the first time I've played for this particular school...water fights, food fights, my mobile gets stolen, male & females practically performing sexual acts on the dancefloor (they are 14!) and vandalism in the toilets.

I couldn't wait to leave.
