Irish / Greek wedding last night. If only they all could be as much fun.

Fizzled out a bit towards the end, but it was a hot night & the doors were open (I believe some were dancing outside).

Funnily enough, I had an Irish wedding last night too and loads of people were outside as well. I didn't announce the first dance until 10pm.

A very good gig tonight.

It was the wedding of someone I used to work with (the second in as many weeks), and was at St Marys church Hall in Wimbledon village...a venue with a sound limiter!

I knew this when I took the booking, as I helped my friend with a disco there last year...so I also knew it was one of the few that are set at a sensible level, hence me not having a problem taking the booking.

It was a really good night. They wanted lots of party stuff & cheese, so I obliged, and it went down really well.

When I stopped the music to announce the cutting of the cake, a boy of about 10 or 12 who had been watching me all night came up & said "You're a good DJ...you've got a very good DJ voice" He was clearly very intelligent!

Another good thing about the gig was that it finished at 11.15.

The groom told me to take any drink I wanted as there was loads left over.

I decided to finish loading the van first, by which time the strong stuff had gone...so I took 24 litres of soft drinks! (6 x 2 litre bottles of lemonade & 12 x 1 litre cartons of orange juice...so the fridge will be full tomorrow).

All in all, a great night all round...and I was home at midnight...RESULT!

A result for me also, I hope. Wedding of the son of a person I worked with. Spooky, eh Rob? It was a lovely place I recced on Wednesday, and the owner is an ex DJ of some note ( and before you ask, I didn't get his surname, and no I didn't recognise him) and he had expressed views that he didn't want excessive noise, and loads of lights were totally superfluous. At setup this morn, he opined that my compact rig looked big!
So Tonight, one slightly apprehensive DJ starts up, and shortly, mine host expresses his approbation for the lighting rig, goes outside where many punters are sitting on the lovely terrace, and says it sounds great. End of night, he is impressed, and asks for a card. Possible work there I hope.

Over the years We have Had some excellent nights and it would be hard to decide which was the best some for comedy value and others for the energy and atmosphere.
However Last night was a real slog, the happy couple had prepared a playlist (luckily I had most tracks) they wanted us to stick to religeously, It was very hard to keep the floor going as they were very unusual request.
I normally advise customers against this but they dug thier heels in.
luckily they were very happy with the night even if one of the guest pointed out "just cos their musicians does not mean they know all about music!!!!"
all I would say to any other dj in this position is look for the positives and learn from the hard nights, there just might be a couple of tunes requested you can use again and remember a tough night makes a good night more enjoyable.

Had a good-ish night last night, like most, suffered with the heat (more me than the audience....lugging those heavy speakers got a real sweat on!) They we're propper cheese addicts though...I was playing party stuff like Mambo No 5, 500 Miles, Celebration etc and they came up and asked for MORE cheesier stuff...I'm guessing like extra mature cheddar...played the can can, the conga, music man etc and they loved it. Got a 20quid tip and gave out some business cards at the end of the night to people who wanted to book us, can't really ask for more than that!

I had a pretty good gig on Sat night from a booking I did on NYE (and yes it was hot and the thunderbugs were eating me alive). luckily I had help in with the gear from one of the birthday boys as he brought the keys down to the village hall (it was a joint 18th party)

It was a fairly quiet start as everyone was outside enjoying the evening sun and drinking (who can blame them).

I didn't get a playlist so pressumed they would want all the usual modern stuff (I guessed right). At around 9:30 they all piled in and filled the dancefloor (can't remember what was on though).

It stayed busy-ish most of the night. Then came the cheesy stuff around 11:00 - Cha Cha slide rammed the floor (about 80 all doing it together - thank god for digital systems, CD's would have been jumping all over "stomp 5 times") It then stayed full for Macarena, YMCA, Saturday Night, 500 Miles and my cheesy mini country set consisting of Steps-5678, Billy Ray Cyrus-Achy Breaky Heart and Shania Twain-Man, I Feel Like A Woman!

I was also brought 2 cheeseburgers from the BBQ outside by one of the boys mum and bought a few drinks.

They also set up a projector showing young embarassing pics of the boys and one of the dads was updating it all through the night with pics taken on the night. Worked well and got a lot of laughs.

All in all a good night, makes up for the boring ones you get every now and then!
