Last nights gig was a new one on me, western theme with loads of country music..., that i didn't have prior to getting the gig
, thanks to Crazy K for the gig also.
The venue was a large poultry farm, about 20 minutes away from where i live. The gig was held in a large turkey / poultry shed, which could hold 250people easily, and many many more birds, poultry type that is.
It looked well, decked out with tables, straw bales to sit on, help yourself bar and bbq area, 8 large patio heaters, bucking bronco inflatable thing, me and some dodgy electrics. set up was straight forward, ultimax with impossibled in middle, 2 par 36 led pins either side and 2 led boogies on the outside, with 2 standard par 56's mounted on floor, used as mood lighting, (sorry no pictures, as batteries my digital camerta have given up the ghost).
101 country hits played for a couple of hours, to welcome the guests from 7.30pm. With a half hour break when the anitquated electric supply objected to something and temporairily packed up!!

We played some line dancing tracks off a couple of cd's i bought on ebay a week ago, that went down well if only probably gave the impression i knew what i was doing, how wrong......
. Some really good cowboy and cowgirl outfits, a monster of a clint lookalike from the good, bad and ugly, a cowgirl with inflatable cow as her bottom half as though she was rodeo'ing it, a rather sinister looking sherrif who really looked the part in all black, who kept appearing from the clouds made by the smoke machine which was a little disconcerting!!!!

We played some 70's disco, a bit of chart stuff mixed with some more from 101 country hits, (lifesaver
), not one request, and pockets of dancers dotted around, with alot of focus on the buckaroo thingy. Boy it was cold, we had a gass heater for our sole use and an electric fan heater keeping the playout from getting damp. Well togged up with 3 layers of clothing etc.
Come midnight the place was full of folks doing what folks do best, apart from the sherrif who had now flagged and given in to the effect of the red eye...

Supposed to finish at 1am, still playing at 1.30, quite happy, loads up dancing and coming to the end of my end set, rock type stuff. Client came up and asked would i stay and generously crossed my palm with silver to do another hour. Ok, with me, sort of, the better half was struggling with the cold and concrete floor, and i had been at work all day, but soldiered on, all the young ones had now gone as most of the 160 guests had and we had a die hard pocket of serial guests, still having a ball.
Finished at 2.40am, lots of thanks from the client and guests, packed down loaded up, and on my way with cash payment, extra cash for extra hour, a fresh turkey and a fresh chicken and a dozen eggs, (all as part payment from the client
, remember where i am!). Home at 3.30am and virtually straight to bed, i normally have toast and beer!!.
To sum up, a different type of gig for me, but went well. Thanks to the 101 compilation cd's
, have worked outside before so know the pitfalls, and we were prepared for them.
Really like theme do's and i am now armed with tunes and experience to cope with another one of these, yeeha.......
