Good Gig, Bad Gig.

Saturday Night......

Wedding in a permanant Marquee at a regular venue, so i knew what to expect: Very low sound limiter, 11pm finish and everyone outside for the first until about 9.30pm.

Set-up (with the Silver package, excluding bass bin) was an early one again, so got there at 1.30pm and was all done ready for the guests arriving at 3pm. Back again at 6pm, as they wanted the sound system for speeches etc. Supposed to be 100 people for a one course BBQ and they ended up with about 120 guests.

Again, running late so they didnt get the speeches done until 7pm and they first dance was underway by 7.30pm. It was Backstreet Boys' All I Have To Give, which was selected by the Groom. Quite a strange set-up, they got married in the venue on the Friday as that was exactly 10 years after they met and had a small do with a pianist on the Friday night (who kept setting off the limiter, and got hammered!).

After that, everyone went outside until about 9pm when it started to get chilly so i played a bit of everything, mainly as background music for those talking, again, no playlist at all.

The Bride decided that it would be a good idea to get every sing girl/lady on the dancefloor for a boogie tgo Sugababes' Girls and managed it. She then put the guys forward to do the same thing. The Cheif Bridemaid suggested Denice Williams' Lets Hear It for The Boy, but the Groom went With Blame It On the Boogie. Ended up with all the boys/men on the dancefloor and the girls/ladies around them, so tooke the initiative and mixed Blame It On The Boogie with Run DMC & jason Nevins' Its Like That (it actually mixes really well) and announced a dance off 9boys vs girls) which went down brilliantly.

Played the usual dance and party stuff and got told to finish at 10.45pm with Lady in Red as they wanted all the guests lined up from the Marquee to the Honeymoon Suites balcony and stairs, and the B&G walked the line with guests lighting sparklers as they went past. Song to be played was Take Thats' Greatest Day. It worked a treat.

I packed down as as all the guests spent the last hour (11pm entertainment licence, venue shuts at midnight) watching the wedding day on a projector and big screen.

Not so many business cards given out as this lot were from way down south, but plenty of handshakes and cheers at the end 9which did trip the limiter, after i hadnt all night )

Cheers Theo, both were great. The group of 30 were a more "up-for-it" crowd , but both were a pleasure. Just wish i had a roadie full time who could video them all

I did a country and western themed Netball Presentation night on Saturday (20th) where they also had a bucking bronco.

The venue was about a mile down the road so I went down around 4pm to casually set up then back home around half 5 for a shower so I was fresh for the night.

The bucking bronco turned up around 7.15 and it looked like the owner was a bit rough around the edges, she was complaining that she had been out all day with it at a fete but when I found out that she charges £270 for 3 hours then I wasn't going to sympathise with her.

About 70 - 80 guests turned up in fancy dress and about 65 of them were young girls... all wearing mini skirts or denim shorts .

Well I was up on a stage looking down at the bronco and to say I was a happy man with many images to last me a lifetime would be an understatement, these girls were not at all shy... .

Had a great night with a bit of Karaoke thrown in and many requests, all finished by 12 and lucky enough to have a couple of pints towards the end and after time as I know the stewardess.

Left my gear there until the morning all safe and sound and picked it up around 11.30.

All in all 10/10 for my experience.

Well I was up on a stage looking down at the bronco and to say I was a happy man with many images to last me a lifetime would be an understatement, these girls were not at all shy... .

I could tell you some stories from my bouncy castle days, doing university events with sumo suits, a gladiator duel, bungee run, bouncy castle, etc etc...

The one which sticks in my mind was my wife turning around to me at one of the uni balls where I was running the sumo suits and saying to me about one of my customers - "You'd think she'd have worn knickers with a skirt that short - especially if she was planning on rolling around on the floor!" Unfortunately I'd been too busy at the time to see what she was talking about...

First off last night, a big thank you to Justin for being cameraman, tech ops, public relations officer( so welll that most of the punters thought he was the DJ! )and taxi driver.

It was a local farm, daughter's 21st. Reverse van up to door, set up other side. Lovely. Hog roast, free real ale bar, taxi driver, sorted.
The only downside was we could have done to timeshift the gig, as we had two hours almost completely alone, and a packed floor at the end. If Justin masters the technology, a Gig Log may be appearing soon. Thanks mate.

Right, last nights wedding was an Ok gig, not good, not bad.

It was in a marquee for about 70 people. Took the RCF 312 and a single 705 bin, which SHOULD have been more than ample.

I was set up in the morning so i could arrive back at 6.45pm with music and start. Anyway, got there and started setting up and was told..."Theres a band on too". Lovely, not mentioned in any of the meetings with bet B&G or anything, so I set up in the corner as its apparantly a 5 peice. Everythings fione from my end and off i go, happy that i can get back and start with no worries (even left the band loads of sockets).

So get back at ^.30 (a tad early, just to check out what the bands doing/like) and they are bloody huge. Its not a five peice, its a 4 peice, complete with full sound engineer and desk at the back of the marquee!

To make matters worse they have a pair of Mackie SA1532z's (which are 1300w each and 138spl) AND a pair of Peavey HiSys Bas bins (the ones with Black Widow drivers, cant remember the exact model) My RCF is looking underpowered by now (reminds me of Darrens thread).

To make things even better, they just happen to put their stack right infromt of my bass bin and the rest of their stuff is right in my feild of view of the dance floor so i couldnt see a thing all night.

First dance went well, Chicago's Youre the Inspiration, followed by Lionel Richie's Angel...then straight into Cher's Believe, then changed it down to a bit of Billy Ocean. Sound levels just right. Then the bands turmn, well they could play, ill give them that, but god they were loud. Im sure their sound engineer was trying to knock the glasses of the bar. They played a good, classic rock set, whcih everyone enjoyed. I got back on and done 45 minues of 60's andf 70s which went down well, but i was really having to push the system at first, then ease off as people got used to the change in vloume.

Then the band came back and again destroyed everyones ears again, did have people dancing though. they played a bit of Bon Jovi, Pink, Billy Ocean, AC-DC, just a good mix generally, and i finished the night with a bit of rock that they missed, Bryan Adams, Guns N Roses.

All in all it wasnt bad, wish I had that second bin with me though (and maybe another 2, just for good measure).

Could be something to do with the fact that no-one could see us through the vast lighting rig.

A timeshift would have been good, I might have got home a little earlier than 3:10am
