Good Gig, Bad Gig.

My gig last night went really well! All enjoyed the whole playlist, Played the Glee version of Don't Stop Believing! They loved a bit of Glee, Played quite a few of the glee versions.

But overall a great gig!

Keep forgetting to report on my gig on Saturday night. Booked from 7 till 12, uplighting in place, early setup. In a masonic hall which makes a change for me.

Anyway, the gig went like this
7 pm started
8.30 pm Finished
....................erm that's basically it.

Loads of kids who were tired (even thought they were dancing ) as were the B&G so they decided to call the minibuses to pick everyone up at 8.30, no first dance, no buffet etc.

I got asked by the best man for 'a word outside' which caused me to soil my underwear, but turned out he just wanted to apologise for finishing early and ruining my plans Sure i'll cope

It was quite a chavvy wedding so my son came along to play some of the club crap that was requested, full dancefloor them Mum's and Dad's decide its time to go..................sooooo strange

Last night for AXA award ceremony

What can i say turned up @ 5.30 to set up (huge room fits 400+ people seated) only 245 though in attendance.

Started setting up on the stage.. and got told oh you cant set up speakers now on stage as they are going to be giving away the awards.

So had to leave everything off stage in the corners all wired in for when they finish to move it all again onto the stage.

Then got told oh we don't need you till 10pm So i went home for a couple of hours. Came back at 9.00 (to be ready for anything). Awards on till 11 before I could even put my speakers on stage and start the party. So about 10 mins of me faffing around plugging lights and speakers in when I finally get on at 11.15, Called last orders at 12 midnight and finished at 12.30..

Finished and the organiser came and offered me an extra £100 for another hour. Hotel agreed to 1/2 hour and I agreed to the £100 for 1/2 hour extra.

They loved it.. By far my easiest gig in a long time, will since my last corporate/school prom gig anyway.

Organiser said last 4 DJ's they have had could not get anyone dancing.. I had them jumping around and doing all sorts.

OK, mine. Well where do I start? I was heading into Lincoln to work with Penfold's esteemed Legslappers. An hour's drive in high winds, across some pretty grotty roads. Oh goody.

Well it seemed that every vehicle that wanted to travel slower than me was in front of me at some point. Nevertheless, I made it to the venue on time, and was flabbergasted when an actual Sports Club did indeed appear as predicted by the Sat Nav. You begin to have doubts when it leads you through a shopping centre and a Cathedral!!

So, venue found, and a very short distance from the van to the performance area. Then the fun began. My rig had to fit in an alcove, which it did fine. Trouble was, we need another table alongside it for the MC and tech ops. Seventy two people in a small venue, and I can't really get the cabs where I want, because folk are sitting there. Due to the nature of the event, table layout is probably the highest priority of the night.

So, I move the left hand stack to the right of the right hand stack.Lopsided, but viable. This leaves room for the table to come in now. The night goes off pretty much as any other with them, and at 10.30, I'm given the reins till midnight. Half my audience promptly walk out! Normally at these gigs, my problem is getting rid of them, not keeping them. Midnight comes, after one or two Alcohol induced punter mishaps/problems. I get the gear in the van, and oh joy, the road's almost devoid of traffic. A gentle trip home, with both hands firmly gripping the wheel all the way, and I chicken out of crossing the motorway bridge to get home, and go the old way.
