Joint 18th Birthday last night for twin sisters. Blue Uplighting & Photo Projection too. 120 guests and all up for it from the start. More or less a full dance floor all evening which was great. Played everything from the list of requests and got loads more on the night.
99% current Chart, RnB, Dubstep etc and it all went well. Did a few mixes actually and it was refreshing to do it. Actually got a comment from a young guy who said "That was awesome!"....I was mixing using the Denon HD2500. One that worked really well was David Guetta / Snoop Dogg - Sweat and Rihanna - S&M.
All well behaved (until the end) and a good atmosphere all evening. The girls really enjoyed themselves and wanted a picture taken with me at the end which was nice. The parents who booked me were very happy but also stressed out as apparently some of the guests (mainly the guys) were being idiots during the evening. It didn't happen inside and I never knew what went on?
Sorry but I have to say it....without going into too much detail, I am not sure how some of the girls squeezed into the most tiniest dresses. It was like they had been painted on. As far as the music was concerned, although not my cup of tea, I am so glad I keep up to date with everything. I had some requests that people asked for and they were surprised that I had them.
Best songs of the night were:
Gyptian - Hold you
Sisqo - Thong Song (Yes, the girls did the obvious)
Christina Aguilera - Dirrty
Willow Smith - Whip My Hair
Keri Hilson - Turn my swagger on
LMFAO - Party rock anthem
Finished off with Rihanna - What's my name and Chase & Status - End Credits which had the dancefloor packed.
Big negative at the end though - I had packed down and walked outside to get my van to drive it round the back to load it up. There were about 50 people outside the venue and as I walked past them, something happened and it kicked off big style with a few people fighting. I didn't get involved. I went back inside and saw the Dad who was tidying up and told him. He sorted it out. It was unfortunate as it had been a great night.

I had a brilliant gig last night for my usual teen suspects.
Packed dancefloor all evening and two requests for the hokey cokey - which was probably the best floor filler of the whole night.
Went out to a house party after ....... I'm feeling rough and have to setup todays wedding shortly!

Great gig last night. It was a retiral party for a nurse. There was only about 40 at the party but they all had a great night.Build me up buttercup was a very popular song and filled the dancefloor, because apparantly there is a story that means something special to them about this song.
The usual variety of music, but finished the night of with tina turner simply the best.
nothing tonight, thats me till next weekend

Really odd gig tonight. Brilliant but surreal. There were pictures of me when I was five behind there wedding cake!
Tune of the evening had to be 'Wish you were here' - Pink Floyd. It was a gamble but worked a treat. Usual chart stuff, old northern soul, plenty of 'jive tunes' and Rolling Stones. Everybody there used to be best mates with Mum & Dad when they were in there 'youth' Mum used to go out with the groom!
I shared a taxi home with the people I got chatting too and the taxi driver didn't speak. Our conversation died for a minute and the taxi driver spoke...'Is this the Mick Brown with black curly hair. I used to pick him up from Wensley Road and his missus used to run out shouting 'don't honk! you will wake the neighbours!' - Yup, you guessed - he was spot on.
I had no idea who the B&G were. Then a business dude came up to me and said 'your Charlie Brown aren't you? You were meant to come to a interview at my company last year when you left school but you turned it down!' (Which is also true. This is when I was toying with the idea of working full time)
So so so so so so odd.

That's got to be one of the weirdest 'good gig / bad gig' reviews I have read on here!
Now....my gig last night was the 2nd of two 18th's this weekend and this one was more of a family affair. It was at the venue where I mentioned the sound limiter was set at 105db and where I have another 3 bookings later in the year so it was a really good chance to see how it would all go. Firstly, the sound was plenty. I was on a stage and I used the JBL's with no problems at all so that's a good thing for the future. It was a case of plugging into the socket on the stage which was connected to the limiter as there was no mic monitoring the sound and all was well.
I also provided Karaoke and Photo Projection and it took me 1.5hrs to set up. No'one sang on the Karaoke as everyone was too busy dancing. The Photo Projection went down very well. The Birthday Girl works for a stables and does eventing too so lots of her friends from the stables were there too and they were all up for it from the word go. At the end of the night I gave out a stack of cards and the boss and owner of the stables said that she wants me to do a party at her farm and that she would work around me so asked when I could do it. I said June is pretty quiet for me and we picked a date there and then which is going to be a very good payer. I also gave out a stack of cards to various people who asked for them, including the venue.
So, the music....(Charlie - This is the party that had your favourite tune 'The Hokey Cokey' on the request list)....Well, from 7.30pm to around 10.30pm it was current chart stuff with stuff that had been in the charts a few years back as well as the likes of Montell Jordan, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, R Kelly etc and then from 10.30pm - 11.30pm it was pure cheesiness!!! They loved it.... Saturday Night, Macarena, 5,6,7,8, Cotton Eyed Joe, YMCA, Cha Cha Slide, Timewarp, Blame it on the Boogie and lots more.
It was very weird and also very funny because as soon as the cheese came on, everyone seemed to get involved. Lots of the older ones got up and danced too. Before I went into the really cheesy stuff (above) I played Weather Girls, Michael Jackson etc and then an older lady ran up to the stage and asked for 'Oops upside your head' and that was it, that started the cheese off.
Now, we were getting close to the end of the night, the atmosphere was great and I had around 10 minutes left. The tune that I said I would finish off on the other day following Angela's suggestion (The Hokey Cokey) was on my mind. It was on the list and I didn't know whether my finger actually had the nerve to press the 'play' button. No'one had requested it (I expected someone to come up and ask seeing as I was playing that kind of stuff), but in the end, I gave in. I pressed 'play' and the reaction was
Yep! Guess what!?? It actually cleared the dancefloor!!! No lie, the party was in full swing with only a couple of tunes left to play and I thought it would work and it didn't so I made a joke about it and put on Spice Girls - Wannabe, which had been requested a number of times and got them all back on the floor. Whilst it was playing, the birthday girl and the older lady came up on stage and asked if I could play a song that I have always hated with a passion. A song that I have NEVER EVER played in all the time I have been DJing. A song that makes me cringe, makes me want to curl up in a ball and die. A song that is the cheesiest amongst cheese and registers Extra, Extra Mature on the Cheese O Meter..
Was it Agadoo? NO!
It was the bloody BIRDY SONG!!
Did it work? YES!! Unbelievably, it was probably one of the best reactions of the night. I couldn't understand it as they didn't want the Hokey Cokey but loved the Birdy Song!!!??
Anyway, did the usual thanks and goodbyes and got packed down and home for a beer. Woke up this morning aching like I've run a marathon but have had a really good weekend doing something different for once.
Just wanted to add - On both friday and saturday night, a song that went down really, really well was Willow Smith - Whip my Hair. I'd not heard it before until I downloaded it as it was on both request lists and even though I don't like it, it worked a treat.
