    Last night.

I was working at a brewers fayre pub and a premier inn travelodge called Home Farm in a small village just outside of Hull near the Humber Bridge.

60th Birthday last night for a rich bloke all very friendly people. No expense spared last night.

To use the lift to go down to the basement of the pub we had to take the equipment through the travel lodge reception and down the lift into the pub.

only problem being that... to get to the basement of the building which is where the party was. You need a lift key so you couldnt go down without a member of staff putting a key in the door outside to send the lift down from the ground floor to the basement. once we got in the basement and unloaded and took the kit into the setup area. we could send for the lift to go back up to the travel lodge to go for the next load of kit and again to come down to the basement again we had to look for a member of staff to send the lift back down again.

So the load-in and the load-out wasnt the best. Last night i just used my tops alone. I usually take at least 1 sub but didnt bother last night. Still a nice sound from my RCF tops even without the sub reinforcement.

my setup time is getting quicker as i have beeen working on getting my bar pre-wired with mains and dmx someone i know has been helping me do that. So i managed to get the setup up in just over half an hour.

The night itself was ok. In my eyes it was far from one of the best nights ive had and definetely far from the worst so it was just OK.

people didnt dance all the time because the disco was secluded from the main seating area round the corner. But i had a full floor occasionally. The organiser did say that a lot of the family hadnt seen each other for a while. It made me wonder if they had a good night or not because the organisers didnt say nothing they just left.

So you know when you think well was they satisfied with the disco. But today i had a telephone call from the organiser and the birthday boy himself and they said sorry they didnt come and see me at the end. But the disco was fantastic they were more than happy with it and would recommend me to all their friends and family

    Well done John!

Your 'no expense spared' comment confused me though what with the venue being at a premier inn!

Agreed its not exactly the most upmarket venue a premier inn travel lodge for that kind of thing. But the organiser did say that it was a pub they go in a lot for meals and a drink with family and friends.

They definetely spent a lot on the party. All the wine they was drinking was expensive stuff and it was help yourself to a bottle. I could have had some if i wanted the organiser said help yourself. But i was happy with soft drinks as always. I dont drink at all when im discoing.

    I agree.

Last night I had a couple of pints in the last half an hour but that's all.

Totally agree mate and it's down to alcohol as Darren says. Not surprising really when the wedding was at Midday. The thing is, it's no excuse is it?
How can you have 120 guests, the majority of which have been drinking and enjoying themselves and then get 2 spoilers?

In the email of thanks from the Bride & Groom, there was also an apology too for the behaviour of the gruesome twosome (which wasn't really required as they had apologised enough on the night).

At least it was good that you had the support of the bride and groom on the night who put the obnoxious couple in their place and ultimately our.

    Yes definitely.
I've said it before but when I have my meetings with the Brides & Grooms, the most important thing is to find out what they DON'T want to hear during the night. A lot of them are pretty laid back about certain tracks and say that although they don't like them and they don't want me to go out of my way to play them, they don't mind too much if something is requested but at the end of the day, they'd rather not hear them.

I haven't had many where they are really adamant that certain stuff shouldn't be played. At this particular wedding, it really wasn't the kind of thing they wanted and it was only 2 people who were being complaint pains and had a lack of respect for me but more importantly, the Bride & Groom.

The worst thing is when the Bride & Groom are adamant that they don't want something, it gets requested and you advise the person that it's not what the Bride & Groom want and then that person hassles them enough that they give in and it makes you look silly. I've had it happen once and I just simply said "No problem, if they've changed their mind then that's fine".

Been on a run of 8 or so really awesome gigs club/mobile including last nights and after this last week being really productive I am half expecting something to go wrong.

Ok now I've received this email my thoughts might be swaying back to my original stance.....

Just a quick note to thank you once again for providing such an excellent disco at my wedding reception last Saturday at Stonehouse Court Hotel. You did a great job of keeping the dance floor busy once the first few brave souls committed themselves (!) and I was so pleased to hear so many of the tunes from our list of suggestions! I also thought that the uplighters added nicely to the atmosphere and really fitted in well with our colour scheme.

At the end of the day, you got a happy customer at the end of it and that's the most important thing isn't it?
Ok, we may not all be comfortable with a list that goes on and on and on etc etc but you made their evening special and to me, that's what matters.

I think sometimes we all (possibly) think of ourselves and if we are going to enjoy what we are doing and that's fair enough. I am sure that there are a few of us out there that don't like every job we do for whatever reason.
